I have 2 36gig raptors and i want to run them in raid, but im not sure how, my mb detected the hards and hit f10 to set them up, but im not sure which one to choose. i have a 650 i msi mb if that helps. WDF?: I found a hot girl WDF?: Who lets me WDF?: Drink WDF?: Smoke WDF?: And play video games WDF?: ALL DAY shignog: and in the back door? usually setting up raid with an on-board controller is really simple. all the ones I have seen have decent defaults. I haven't messed with a raid a whole lot though, but I assume you are looking for speed, so just choose raid0 and leave the defaults as they are and see what happens. I run raid0 on my PC. It's simple to set up. Your MOBO should have instructions about how to set it up. You have to go into cmos and change the HD settings and then when when you install the OS there is a prompt to insert the disc with the drivers for your mobo. The rest is pretty much intuitive.I run 2x 7200 rpm SATA berracudas 75 Gig each in raid 0 . I also have a 250 Gig PATA drive for mass storage. Raid 0 makes a difference as far as speed goes. My 1.8 GHz pentium M (single core) running at 2.4 GHz with 2 gigs of ram and the HD config mentioned above loads xp in 2 bars. {pDs}BelligerentPimp wrote:

In mobo controllers don't actually so raid, its called softraid / fakeraid it's done by software and you gain NO performance increases. Get a hardware raid card if you want actual raid. 2 drive raid configurations: Raid 0 = data striping, 1 byte per drive alternating (aka 1/2 the file is on one drive while the other half is on the other drive, faster write, faster read, space = smallest drive * number of drives.) WARNING: one drive dies all data lost. Raid 1 = data pairing, same byte on both drives (data redundancy, same speed write, faster read, space = size of smallest drive) NOTE: if one drive dies you can just slap in a new one and it will resync the drives on boot. I read ALL your private messages.
