Holy shit! For those that may not remember, Speedball 2 was an awesome futuristic sports game like hockey and basketball combined with a touch of football. Was awesome 15 years ago on the Amiga. Now, if you've seen the Steam news update today, it's back!

I have the original in front of me for the PS1. Loved the game, you actually got points for injuring the other team. It was a nasty game.

its a sports game. fucking awesome too. basically, you carry a metal ball and you can pass to your teammates. basically, you have to throw it past the goalie and into the goal. Roughness is allowed and encouraged. In the original Speedball, you actually got points for injuring the other team enough for a substitution. Fun as hell. I want to play it now haha. The scoring is cool too. Goals are ten points. But there are five stars on the side of the arena, that if you light up all five, it increases the multiplier from 1 to 1.5 to 2 times, so goals can be upto 20 points. There are power ups you can grab and also money (supposedly thrown out by the fans) that you can use later. When you win a match, you get paid. The money you earn can be used to buy and sell players and also to train players with improved abilities. There were, I believe, 9 players on a team; You had three defenders, including the goalie and left and right defenders, then you had the midcourt, which including left and right wingsmen along with center. Center would do the jump ball thing. Then you had three forward positions. You could move freely along the court, but usually would play a zone time game and pass to the next zone, because it was faster, and you didnt want to get slammed by the defender. I think Speedball 1 from the Amiga became Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball, and then Speeball 2 was just Speedball 2, in case you had those. If you support John McCain and/or George W. They should make a standalone game based on blitzball from final fantasy X and make it truly 3 dimensional and remove the ff-style encounters.
