Do you guys want player induced voting enabled? IE mapvotes it admins aren't around, etc.

Think "rockthevote"

I think it's a good idea!

THANK YOU! That would be excellent. If someone starts a vote and it gets shot down then no harm done. I'm sure you can limit them to once per map or whatever so people don't start them over and over again.

Only if we can put some kinds of limits on it (which incidentally I think should be in place for admin-initiated votes as well), such as:

  • Require a minimum total votes to change maps. (i.e. if only 3 people out of 30 vote at all, it shouldn't change. To accomodate varying server sizes, a percent-based minimum (like 50% people on the server have voted, so it changes) might be best))
  • Don't allowed a vote to change a map that has been changed to as the result of a vote. (this way, people can't initiate a vote as soon as every map loads to grief everyone)
  • Provide the option in all map votes to stay with the current map. (while I may be wrong on this, I don't believe the current vote setup shows "Keep Same Map" as an option. this could provide an alternative if we can't set a minimum total votes to change)
  • Allow players to Vote To Kick as well. (if we're giving everyone the right to change maps, a potentially abusable power, we should also provide the ability to remove players that do abuse it)

Just my two cents. I'm not against it at all, but at least in the form that admins use it, it has some rough, potentially griefable, edges.

votekick is a decent idea. I'm not sure about requiring a minimum number of votes to change the map, especially if you have the option to "keep current map." Everyone's number keys on their keyboards work and you only have to press one to vote. If you choose not to vote then you subject yourself to the majority's opinion. Kind of an example:

http://wdfnews.com/forums.aspx?g=posts&t=6591

There were only what, 17 total votes? Everyone had the chance to vote though and those who did got their wish granted.

Making it so you can't votemap again on a newly-changed map is a good idea but I'm not sure if the addon/plugin/whatever even has that option. I'm not sure it would be a problem, especially if you time-limit the number of times votemap can be called (which I think you CAN do). If enough people voted to change the map to a new one - you can presume that they'll immediately vote to "keep current map" if someone tries to change it.

Basically kind of like you said, having the option to keep current map resolves both of these issues and I think that might be the simplest way to keep map voting under control.

Eggnog - it's not just for breakfast anymore.
You should be more like Cantrip.

Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ."
GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit."
Xylicon: "I'm about to deliver my [Richard] in your face for posting that stupid shit. "
WDF?: "He keeps reaming me... night after night... I'm rather sore."
GivePeaceAChance: "OMG MY NIPS ARE HARD"
llenta: "cantrip, you fail!!!"
Filliam H. Muffman: "i'm on top of dick"
