The G-man's identity and purpose are kept a secret from the player (Gordon Freeman), and his role becomes more clear as gameplay progresses. I still don't really know. He is some guy who has been employed by someone (?) to watch over Gordon, kind of like a lab rat or something.

The gman can't be killed either, without noclip he can only be reached once in the whole game while jumping really good, if you hit him it leaves holes like on a wall.
