bought me a laptop, nothing fancy but it has an 8400 and can play the orange box so it's good for the job. but for some reason it crashes when playing TF2, and it *seems* to be the card. but here's the weird part, it's only crashed on Tempest. 3 times now, and i dont think it has on anyother server if my recall is correct. so do ya think this might be a deficiency in the specs or could it be something else? i think God wants me to never play with pDs again. yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

post the exact specs of your laptop, but I believe the tempest servers may just hate you.

hmmm... updating the drivers has made little or no difference. i'm not the only one to have had this problem though, and it's only with 2fort, and the only common factor i can see is that we were using laptops, so... i don't know. one possibility might be heat, that the laptops are poorly ventilated, but then if that were the case why would it only effect 2fort? another may be that Nvidia describe the cards as being 256mb, but Dell ship them as 128mb, and that in the downward transition something is referencing dead memory... but again would this not be more widespread? anyway i couldn't find a resolution, and as to whether it's the hardware with the laptop or a TF2 error at fault i don't know, but for the bridge in TF2 the two things are incompatible. maybe i should try some heavier games to explore this issue further and see if it really is another legendary valve issue, but fuck it, it's only one map. i can live with that. yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

From what I have heard the 8400's aren't as good as other 8000 series cards, but I can't think of a reason why it won't work on 2fort only. Maybe a corrupted Map file?
