I made the mistake of peeling off the little plastic circles from the bottom of my mouse when I was bored. I am now starting to pay the price. So if you ever hear excuses from me about my mouse when I'm getting fragged, know that they are not complete bullshit...  You can see the places where the things used to be, and a noticeable barrier between what the bottom of my mouse should look like and an encroaching smoothness caused by hours of gameplay.  The first picture didn't show very well the way I wanted it to show how crappy my mouse now is, so to get a sense of how much is being worn down, I angled the mouse to reflect my monitor (My mousepad isn't just wearing down the mouse, it's polishing it.)  Also, if you ever wonder why my voice responses in-game might be a little delayed, it's because I'm using this sorry excuse for a microphone. Oh, and my wrist wrest is a wooden block covered in peeling sticky duct tape. I realize this tech blog post might not be as captivating as Cantrip's, but bear with me, I just needed to vent.

That really hurts, don  btw, my specs: 22" flatscreen LCD 2.4 ghz OC'd at 3.4 ghz core 2 duo 2gb RAM 120gb HDD 320mb 8800 GTS vid card nforce 680i SLI chipset mobo WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?

Fuck, spring 50 bucks for a decent gaming mouse. With a system like that your computer deserves better. Also get a logitech USB Mic for like 25 bucks. Works like a charm. After all this you profit. I'm the leetest one here

 And those little plastic things are, were, glide pads. Just put some Scotch Tape where you couldn't leave well enough alone. An you can pick up an optical mouse for like $5. However, it would be shame to not give your rig a proper gaming mouse. I have a Razor Diamondback with like five or six buttons I have set up just the way I like 'em. You can get one from Amazon for about $33 and they have one used for like $20. These things go on sale periodically so if you're in no rush, you should wait for a sale somewhere. Meh, when I first played HL, it was on a touchpad and yes, I did multiplayer, and yes, I was one of the best in my school and we had some mad good players. Scary to think that was a DECADE ago. get your ass to mars

ITT we bash roller-ball mice. And talk about our rigs. I run a stock dell keyboard and lasermouse. Flat keyboard. Very pick-up-and-hit-someone-with-it-able. The rest: 2GB of DDR2 RAM @ 667 160 GB hard drive w/ 250GB storage drive eVGA 8600GT Creative X-Fi ExtremeMusic And a p4. ^_^ Roller-mouse? Dude. I ditched mine back in '02. In the days of dialup Doom it didn't matter quite as much. I still have a pretty non-standard key-binding set up where I do z as strafe left, x as backwards, and c as strafe right. Forward is my right mouse button. I've never seen or heard of anyone else with this set up since the quake1 days, but I roll it oldschool. For a few months I played quake1 on a compaq laptop using the little nubby eraserhead mouse, that was hard but I still did OK, the trick was to turn on mouse acceleration but dial it down a lot.
