Anyone hear about the super great game system called AlienWare? Well yes at the time it was awesome, but as it turns out, even this great computer cant handle the great destroyer.

It's offten unseen without light...

It strikes and collects potency....

And no its not your dog's gassy expulsions.

It's dust.

It fried my dual ram chips (their heat sinks were unable to stop the heat  buildup on the rim  of the chips), with the ram burning, the motherboard killed over. Effectively killing my computer.

The AlienWare computer was old enough to need an respectively old mother board (Or some BS the Techs fed me...) So i got an MSI board. The ram was replaced. And the OS (Win XP) reinstalled.

Took it home planing on starting more games. But the computer constantly gave blue screens of doom.

Contacted Nvidia suspecting the graphics card was toast, ext...ext.

Lost interest in fixing the computer, till a friend brought up the point that It may simply have had a bad OS installation.

I used the old AlienWare Recov disc (Or Alien Respawn disc) and fixed my comp...till I installed the Mother Board drivers.

The BSODs started again.

Longer story made short... Windows updater and the Audio drivers from the mother board support disc were causeing the issues.

The Moral of this story?

1) Just because it's a good computer, doesnt make it dust proof! Clean your comps!

2) If techs reinstall our OS, it doesnt necessarily mean its a good install. Bad OS installs are fairly common.

3) If your problems involve windows having a fatal error, dont just suspect the ususal (internet borne problems...) It could be something as odd as a bad audio driver installation. Keep backups and get newer drivers when possible. ((Ofcourse, if it aint broken, dont fix it!))

Yep, thats why i didnt worry too much...till it was too late.

The problem was that the dust was getting thru the edge of the side panel. (Possibly because takeing off and replaceing the side panel is a pain in the gluteus maximus.)

Oh...btw never use a vacume nossle that it conductive...(IE no metal) Almost screwed myself earlier because of it. (>_<)

this sounds a bit sketchy to me. never heard of RAM overheating to the point of death. heatspreaders on RAM don't really make a huge difference in temp.

What part is sketchy?

The RAM or the Mother board? The replacement ram was not too pricey so i know the techs didnt screw me about that.

EDIT: And the place i took it to was StarTech Computers
