Obama here. Clinton gave up her fight vs. HMOs and the drug companies for money. She sold out, and so Obama for me. Republican isn't an option for me.

What about you?

I was a Ron Paul fan.

Cheney will make fun of me for that one.

Anyway, Obama gets my vote. I was a fan of Bill, not so much Hillary.

Besides the color of their skin and their respective genders, there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two.  One has a record for doing some stuff and the other has a record for doing nothing at all.  Obama uses the word change like it hasn't been used before, but whatever.  He is a good speaker, seems smart, and all that jazz, but there are huge fundamental problems I have with both of those candidates that will more than likely keep me from voting for either of them.

Obama.  The only candidate that wants to end our involvement in the civil war going on between Sunni and Shiites in Iraq.  My oldest son is a marine infantryman and I don't want to lose any more of our servicemen in that country.  The Iraqi people need to fight for their own freedom -- we can't buy their freedom with our blood and treasure.  Thomas Jefferson and Ron Paul were right  when they warned against  "foreign entanglements and wars".

Thomas Jefferson? I'm pretty sure that was George Washington. TJ was all about palling around with the French. Remember the Louisiana Purchase?

Yeah well the only problem is now that we are in Iraq, we can't just leave. That leaves Iraq for the taking (by Iran) and then it's a straight shot to Israel without interference, and then we'll be back over there fighting Iran, who is friends with Russia and China, and also with the other middle eastern countries. Bush sent us in and now we're fucked.

Lead Salad, Washington and Jefferson were of one mind about this:

"Nothing is so important as that America shall separate herself from the systems of Europe, and establish one of her own. Our circumstances, our pursuits, our interests, are distinct. The principles of our policy should be so also. All entanglements with that quarter of the globe should be avoided if we mean that peace and justice shall be the polar stars of the American societies." --Thomas Jefferson to J. Correa de Serra, 1820. ME 15:285

The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is, in extending our commercial relations to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop.   from Washington's farewell address 1796

They were worried about involvement in the Napoleonic Wars; substitute "Middle East" for Europe for todays issues.

Yeah but we still cannot just leave. We never should have went in, and now we're stuck. (you can substitue "stuck" for "fucked" if you want)

Sigh, Israel is the worlds largest violator of Human Rights, and guess who, since Sept 11th is the second, according to Amnesty Intl?  Let me make it clear, I am anti-Zionist, not Anti-Semitic.  Israel has nuclear weapons but because of U.S. pressure they have remained out of the NPT so that they can provide American Nuclear technology to other countries while the U.S. still maintains the transparent veil of pretending to care what the world thinks.  Neither Obama or Clinton will solve these issues, that said, I am voting for a third party candidate, probably from the DSPA.  Obama is the best choice out of all of them, but he is still not a good choice.  (He wants to send ground troops into Pakistan)

And the answer to Iraq is simple........Stop forcing them to do what we want....When we went in, we specifically added into their constitution that they were to support the free market.  We are trying to force them into something that they aren't, the current govt. in Iraq is a joke, a puppet govt. for the U.S. corporate interests and the people of Iraq know it, thats why they are fighting back, well that and the fact that we have completely destroyed their lives and haven't even begun to fix it.  (interesting note, during more than 20 years of rule, Sadaam killed at most, estimated by the UN and Amnesty, 20,000:  SInce the U.S. invasion more than 2,000,000 Iraqis have died, and about another million live in refugee status in neighboring countries)  If we actually let a true democracy emerge instead of supporting a corrupt system like our own, peace will prevail and the U.S. can pull its troops out with little continuation of violence.

For those of you who use the reasoning that then they will ally with Iran who are friends with China and Russia.......So fucking what?  The U.S. can't invade Iran, and it is already clear that China will be the next world superpower, taking over from the U.S. within the next 20 years.  This is also the main reason that Bush wants to invade Iran is to prevent the proposed agreements between China and Iran reguarding the purchasing of Oil to be maintained.  Its time that the people of the U.S. recognizes that they can't invade or kill everyone who doesn't agree with us, and that we all actually have to share this world.  The answer is diplomacy first ALWAYS before military violence.

And there is my rant.  Sorry for deviating but I had to comment on the topics which were brought up.  Ask fro clarification if nescesary, and I will elaborate as nescesary.
Suffers from the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency — nay — the very existence of George W. Bush

It's always the lesser of two evils...I have yet to hear a name that I would actually trust.

Gun to my head - Obama. Only because I want a parlay in the white hizzzy.

On the offtopic stuff

@Iraq - After studying early american (N, C, S) history last semester, imo there are more than a few parallels between the colonization of the america's and our skirmish in Iraq.

@Gore - why the hell couldn't he have been so smart when he was actually in office?
You wanna take this to Fuck Town?

I'm not worried about Iran taking over Iraq, I think the threat from Iran is more hype than anything else. They already have a major influence over Iran since we prop up their boys in the Iraqi government. I don't think they want anything more than a proxy state, which they effectively already have. They have their own internal problems. The anti-Israel line they talk is the norm for the region, all the leaders their talk shit about Israel because it provides a rallying point for their people. Our presence in the region actually helps Iran more than it hurts them. Before we invaded Iraq Iran was heading in the other direction and had a growing movement against theocracy. Relative to other Islamic nations Iran is actually pretty democratic so if we would just get out of the way and let things run their course Iran will transform itself into a more secular nation over the next few generations. They have a massive population of young people who would rather listen to Western pop music than some ayatolla.

Re: Obama vs. Clinton. I'm not a huge fan of either, but I think Obama will make a far better president. I'm sure he will do a lot of stuff I think is stupid, but as far as politicians go I think he's one of the least shitty ones around and will do a lot of good.
