So, most of you know I have put on a few pounds since playing TF2.  I have been going out on a daily walk for the past few days.  Though I have a Garmin GPS running watch to keep track of my distance, I flubbed its operation today.

Somewhere on my walk I accidentally bumped the watch and it stopped - bad design. So when I went to pause it, I actually started it up and when I thought I un-paused it, I actually stopped it.

I had no idea as to how far I walked.  The solution?  A Google-based pedometer website.  You find your start location, hit "record" then double-click to mark your starting location, then again to mark the next turning point.  I know Google Earth has this function as well, but you don't have to install this on your machine to get your distance.

I went just over five miles with a calorie burn of over 800 Calories.  That's like a Big Mac and a medium Coke's worth of calories burned.  I would have to have walked almost double what I did if I wanted fries with that.

Here's the link:

10 marathons (26.2 mile distance) within 12 months from 3/06 to 3/07.  Three weeks later I ran a 5k (3.1 miles) really really fast and as a result I injured my knee at mile 2.5, but I kept running at that fast speed.

So I messed up my knee and I am still feeling the effects almost a year later.  Besides, the amount of time you have to put in practice runs is many many hours.

In the last six months on Saturday long-run training day, I was doing a marathon, then 12 miles the next Saturday, 16, 12, then another marathon.   12 miles at a training pace would take 2.5 hours, plus another hour of prep and cooldown.  That's a lot of time.  16 was over three hours.  And a marathon was all weekend with travel time.

So yeah, I used to run a lot, slowly.  Running fast = injury.  I'm an idiot for not stopping my 5k when I started feeling pain.

Damn, Crass wins by a long shot. The longest non-stop run I've ever done was only 11.4 miles, 2 weeks ago.

I walk on average about 1 1/2 mile everyday for walking the dogs and shopping around the local town.

Longest I've walked was a little under 30 miles and that was hiking in the mountains. I admit I did take a few breaks here and there, but I think the longest one was maybe 30 minutes at the halfway point. 4 miles is nothing man.

Yeah, I live in philly, and we drove out to knifes edge in the pocono's.. And then just kept hiking. We had it set up that there would be freeze dried meals waiting for us at certain towns.
