When ever my DVD Drive (DVD-ROM, IDE Connector) is reading data on a CD/DVD it causes my computer to go really slow, as in my mouse pointer moves slowly, sound and video goes weird. I have checked the Connections inside and Master/Slave settings are correct. I might just buy a new one with SATA interface and Silver front to match my Computer instead of Beige, But im skint, So only if no one has any idea whats wrong with it.

CD drives are a pain in the ass to try and fix. It can be done, but it might take a long time. They're so cheap, I'd just get a new one if I were you.

depending on the age yr computer might not support a sata optical drive, just having an available sata port isnt enough, if u want to clean it you need to disassmble the drive, get some 99% alcohol and a q-tip, clean the lense

I doubt a dirty head or an old drive are why your computer is going slow.

Gimme your computer specs, the age of the driver, brand of the drive, and what drivers you're using.

My guess is that an outdated / shitty (3rd party) driver are fucking with your processes (kernel?) or an autorun program is listening in and trying to run when a dvd/cd is inserted but doesn't launch fully because you tried to delete it but some files were left... You know how dirty uninstalls on Windows can get.

Specification is...

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 Motherboard

3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4

OCZ 2GB DDR2 800 PC2-6400 Gold GX XTC

ATI Radeon™ X1650 Pro Series

250GB Hitachi Hard Drive

550W Power Supply

Toshiba DVD-ROM (SD-M1612)

Im not sure if my computer supports SATA DVD Drives, I don't see why It wouldn't, its a new motherboard with 8 SATA connectors, and only one IDE Connector. Could someone help me out with finding out weather my motherboard supports SATA DVD Drives....

SATA Connections will support Hard drives or disk drives, it doesn't matter.

I hate it when that shit happens.

Replace it anyway, at least you know that it's unreliable.

Like screaming babies?

Or like a scratching sound?

It kinda sounds like scratching, even if theres nothing inside it. I think its nothing to worry about though.

At first I was having problems copying stuff to a DVD-RAM in Windows, eventually I found out it works if you DISABLE  Desktop CD Recording. Dont know why, but it does.

I figured out to copy files I also need to change the Format to FAT32, But my DVD Player/Recorder downstairs does not support FAT32 only UDF (Universal Disk Format). My DVD player downstairs does support DVD-RAM and can Record progrmas on them. So how can I copy files to the DVD-RAM without having to change the file system?
