That's sex-core as in sextuple-core (single-, dual-, quad-core . . .), or as they name it, 6-core, for obvious reasons.  They can't go around calling it the "Sex-Core" chip.  But here is a story on Intel's Xeon (6-Core) processors named Dunnington and Nehalem:

From February 25, 2008: DAILY TECH

It is rumored from a now-removed post leak on Intel's website that the chip was to be released in the 4th quarter of 2008.  Not sure where that stands now.

They're doing something different with the front-side bus:  "Intel will abandon the front-side bus model in favor of QuickPath Interconnect; a serial bus similar to HyperTransport."

.
You should be more like Cantrip.

Is this going to be Compatiable with exsisting Motherboards?

This may Seem Strange, But I think Spending a lot of money on a Computer is stupid, I have a feeling that for some reason some company is just going to Release something which will blow away computers as we know it, And completely change computer hardware. For Example, I heard about some sort of Bio-chemical Processor scientists have been working on, Apparently it will be Hundereds of time better than a normal processor, I remember reading that they have got it to work but it has trouble with certain basic calculations. Oh and It is supposedly ultra-low power. I think anyway.

That timing is so perfect. I was planning to finish off my WIP supercomputer in (OMG) Q4, and since it needs a motherboard anyways this is a very viable option. When that thing's done none of ya are getting free screen-lock kills on me.

Does this have anything to do with Intel's new "Penryn" Technology?

I question all these processors being released in such succession. Most games have just caught up to dual-cores nevermind quad-cores and now they are rushing out a sex-core? Processors are usually the last thing that needs to be replaced on a computer so I question the sanity of flooding the market with procs.

Gaming is actually not a very good reason to get a hella sexy CPU. Workstations need them more, gaming is more centralized around Graphic cards and Memory.

Unless you have a fairly shitty CPU, you will not get lag. For example, TripleBam runs TF2 on a P4 with no problems whatsoever, and all the settings cranked.

Jesus christ, 6-core? I don't thinkn it's based off Penryn, 'cuz I'm pretty sure t hose are 4-core. And just being released into macbooks this Q of 08 =D (yay.)

My Athlon 2600 stutters a hella lot playing any game from basically 2005 onwards. I'll be rolling along at maximum graphics on Civilization 4 at 45fps when it'll screenfreeze and cause half an hour of me waiting for the bitch to reload everything, only to find a client timeout message and my game forfeited. Sometimes in TF2 I won't move for 10 minutes at a time, that's cause my CPU is basically a shit calculator chip.

@Ciao Time: Surprise, if you're waiting 30 minutes for your computer to unfreeze, you've just wasted 30 minutes of your life.

Sledgehammer FTW. Also, cheap laptops don't even pull that shit on you, and desktops are cheaper than laptops. Association Property of Inequality...

as far as I know, the majority of mac-based professional-level applications (read: avid and digidesign) are infamous for (among other things) encoding in real-time. Got a 2-hour movie with minimal kerfluffery? it'll take 2 hours. Got a 2 hour movie loaded to the hilt with post-processing, audio data, hella transitions and more shit than a portapotty? It could take a day, mac or not.

Personally, I absolutely adore my right-click, and I'm not terribly hot-to-trot to tell everyone I know about how great it is to pay more and get less. Lose. Fail. DISSAPPOINTMENT.

It has been said for years, and it will continue to be so:

I love how uninformed windows users are.

MACS HAVE LOLRIGHTCLICK

mkay? The laptops don't include the right click but since 1997 or maybe a little earlier, yea, there's been a rightclick. Apple's MightyMouse has it, as well as support for, you guessed it, ALL USB and PS/2 mice. As it's been said, the Mac just integrates the context menu (read: right click) far better than Microsoft.

Back to topic, though,

"http://www.betanews.com/article/Sixcore_Intel_processors_coming_this_year/1205790710" wrote:
Now we know when it will all happen for certain. The six-core Dunnington server CPU platform using Penryn architecture (the "tick" generation of 45 nm), with 16 MB of L3 cache, goes into production as soon as this summer. The 45 nm Nehalem architecture ("tock") enters production in the fourth quarter of this year. That will be the beginning of the end of the era of Intel x86 computers with a front-side bus (a separate circuit linking the CPU to memory, with a dedicated clock).

And Itanium lives on, as the company's new Tukwila architecture will carry the intrinsically multi-threaded instruction set into datacenters and mainframe replacements, with six cores sharing 30 MB of cache.

So I'm guessing the new technology won't be Penryn, but something called Tukwila. Personally, I think Penryn sounds better. =P
