well i believe my network card is fried, it was stormin real bad and as i was shutting down my computer there was a power surge that tripped the breakers. the next day when i try to connect to the internets my connection says its trying to obtain an IP. went to the office of my service provider, they said it was showing a connection and that it had an IP address.
so i go out and get me a new network card, except theres one problem. its too big, well atleast the case mounting part, i do have a pci slot which is what it asked for but when i try to mount it onto my mobo the part that mounts onto the case drives into my mobo. idk if my network card is infact fried but the new one i have doesnt fit. halp? you can try to add a new card and see if it works. If it does not then it could be your modem or your router could be bad. so u'r internets come right from the wall?? are you in a dorm or something? what kind of pc do you have where the nic won't fit? Also, did you check to see if the drivers got disabled for your ethernet port. EDIT: don't ever spend money on ethernet cards or usb to ethernet adaptors. because the fan mounted on the motherboard (the southbridge as he called it) wasnt spinning anymore. prior we tried a new network card, ip renew and such, nothin was workin. he tried the same network card at his place and it was working, so motherboard is fucked In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide.
