So I need a new headset. Wife will be going on a trip soon so I'll actually be able to talk in-game! Plus I just destroyed another pair of earphones so need a replacement there.

Any recommendations for a good headset? I'm not a "sound enthusiast" but I do like my bass.

Plantronics makes some good ones.

I have one that plugs into my sound card via headphone and mic jacks, but they make some that plug into a USB port.

I think they run under $30 for the basic models.

Or you can go ghetto and use a pair of mp3 earbuds or cheap walkman headphones you have lying around and a mic from your webcam, Dragon Naturally Speaking or an old recorder.  All FREEEEEEEEE!

And duct tape, don't forget the duct tape.
You should be more like Cantrip.

i'd invest in a set of good headphones myself, you don't need a fantastic mic for talking over the net. i have one of those shitty cheap ones that came with the old PC a few years back, yet whenever i've skyped people and apologised for it they've said i've probably been the clearest they've ever heard.

on the headphones, i recommend Sony. they typically have great bass basically.
yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

By far the best headphones I have ever owned in my life. I have some Sennheisers and Sony's but I really love these headphones. They come with a mic you can clip on your shirt or velcro to attach it to your computer.

I might go Plantronics...
I'm mostly interested in a full headset since I don't have any other mic and uh.. don't always wear a shirt to attach things to. And while I have a nice coat of fur, it sounds painful clipping anything onto it.

I saw one headset that Plantronics use to have that was nuts. The mic piece was detachable, it was wireless for listening but you had to attach it for talking. Ran about $100 or so. I was going to go get that but now can't find it. =( But having worked tech support and used Plantronics products, I know they're durable. Might grab one of the ones Newegg has.

Thanks for the pointers

Here's a good one.  This site is sponsoring the sim racing site I help moderate.  When these headphones first came out they were $100.

I can't find the exact headphones I use, but these are pretty damn close...

I am something of an audio enthusiast, and surprisingly, these are doing a fine job. Cheap too. I think I bought 'em at Radio Shack. ^_^

Those do look pretty slick.
Unfortunately those behind-wrapping headphones have proven to be complete torture on my ears. =(
I've come to believe my ears are pretty odd-shaped.
