Anyone had it? I have a family history of needing surgery for it and don't, honestly, have the money for surgery or the time to give to being out of work for that long. Anyone know of alternatives to surgery? I'm walking around now with a brace on which helps the pain during the day, but the brace refuses to stay on at night. Plus, Crawdad is afraid of hurting me when I wear it, which tends to put a damper on things like.....hugs.

I am terrified of it and have felt some of the warning signs a few times but it's never gone anywhere.  Unfortunately I don't really have any advice. I've heard that doing special excercises can help mitigate it in the early stages, but once it has set in I don't know.

Maybe I can just get some of whut's pain medication. That would make my job worries and my carpal tunnel all go away.......

Things that work for some people some of the time:  1) Custom fitted splints (don't fall off as easily at night), 2)steroid injections, 3) acupuncture, 4)rest and ice -- especially after work, 5) worksite ergonomic changes to decrease stress across wrist (occupational therpist can work with you on this, 6) chiropractic treatments (don't ask me why, but I've seen it help people before, 7) playing less TF2 (mouse use is the biggest offender I see causing carpal tunnel.   Last resort should be surgery; the majority of people respond to more conservative treatment.  See a physiatrist -- they specialize in non-surgical treatment of problems like this.

Listen to him, he's a doctor. Er...in-game doctor.

I've also had warning signs and I'm pretty scared of having it. Massage therapy helps me relax. It's not too pricey too if you have coverage or get it once or t wice.

He really IS a doctor. And I will listen to him. It just stinks that my entire arm hurts - and it's my left arm, virus, which is strange, since I am right handed.

Do as Dr. Virus said...the majority of my students who had symptoms found relief through:

: resting it --meaning do more with the other arm..be more ambidextrous

: occupational therapy -certain exercises that strengthen and keep that area flexible  seemed to help

: diet - keeping tissues supple and stretchy so they don't swell

Whenever I read one of Virus' posts, it's like hearing the medic say "Danka here, doctor".

Totally off topic, but as an OCD English teacher who almost minored in German (I was something like 6 credits shy), it's, "Danke, Herr Doktor."  He is thanking the doctor for healing him - Thank you, Mr. Doctor.

Rant over....continue thinking of ways to keep me from having surgery. Or thinking of ways that I developed the syndrome in my non-dominant hand.

That is seriously wierd if it's on your non-dominant hand. I was going to assume someone's been playing with themselves too much...but we all know right hand's the hotter one.

I thought it's usually activity related but I'm guessing heredity's a factor too?

LOL....If that was not so funny I would say it was inappropriate.  Good one Leon.
