Sounds like a fan. Are things getting overheated? Belligerent Pimp wrote: The Man Society just suspended my man card for a week for getting rickrolled by Mrs. Mary Midwestern Housewife.

That sounds bad. Sounds like your psu is having some sort of issue. Might want to check all your voltages and see if they are all stable. If you ever have the opportunity to be in the room when a capacitor in your PSU explodes I promise you won't forget it. Listen closely to see if it's coming from the psu.

If it happens when you just have it plugged in and not turned on, could it be your speakers? Unplug them, though I don't think that's what you mean. You may be getting RF (radio frequency) interference. They make these clip-on RF filters you can get at your local Radio Shack or computer building store. You've seen them in the shape of small cylinders - they are the size of about five Life Saver candies in a roll that you see sometimes attached to camera or printer cables. If it isn't the above, and it's not your HD, which if you still get the noise when the computer is off, I gots nothing. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." Xylicon: "I'm about to deliver my [Richard] in your face for posting that stupid shit. " WDF?: "He keeps reaming me... night after night... I'm rather sore." GivePeaceAChance: "OMG MY NIPS ARE HARD" llenta: "cantrip, you fail!!!" Filliam H. Muffman: "i'm on top of dick"

If it's making a squeaky noise and lights are flickering, it's almost certainly your PSU's fan acting up. As somebody already said, if it is then you should probably get it replaced. They're also a good investment if you want to upgrade your computer down the road, so it's worth your money to buy a higher capacity unit then to fix a stock one. Win Cookies Awarded: 7 (bawwwwww)

He has a brand new thermaltake cpu fan. In fact there should be a thread about it somewhere around the top here. My old computer would make a high-pitched squeak from time to time. Gave it to a friend of mine and he said it was the HDD. I don't remember what he said for why it happens though.
