Hey guys. As a lot of you know I'm a huge photo fag. I've done a lot of weddings and other photography and now I decided to make the jump for a personal webpage, but I really don't know what I'm doing.
What I do know is that 1) I have a friend that is willing to host it for me with an account he has, and 2) I can build the page myself. So really, I won't have to pay for hosting with the stipulations I have with my friend.
However, where should I go to actually register the domain name? I also need some possible suggestions for maybe a catchy one. I'm thinking something like theclickoftheshutter.com
So any advice? I want to hopefully make it fairly decent so I can show it to clients and use it for job references {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

Thanks, WDF. The only reason I'm going with my friend is because he's basically using his bandwidth for his existing account, which he hardly uses (and has a lot of space for), so that way I don't have to pay. Otherwise, I would turn to you guys... what is your hosting site so I can take a look? I don't have too much money, but I'm all for supporting friends.
For some other site name ideas I was thinking...
theambienteffect.com
thedigitalexposure.com
theperfectfoto.com (fuckers took "photo")

As far as your name goes, unless you plan on running a hugely popular blog about photos, those names just sound too... fake... to me. I'd keep it personal. Maybe put your name or a popular handle of yours in the URL. And yes, godaddy.com enter DIGG5 at checkout for a discount. (or maybe it's DIGG6 by now... it changes every few months.) silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... I have 10 younger siblings and I am only 20....

Dreamhost is in as many words.... crap... They are a large conglomerate concerned only with squeezing as many accounts on their servers as they can to maximize profits until someone complains or just deals with 20 second page render times for simple message boards. There are several other affordable yet high quality services available if you ever need "real" webhosting.... In other words... I would not buy my worst enemy a dreamhost account... that would be too mean. Yargh

So, when did we add the word "photo" to this sentence?
