Rumour has it Blizzard might be shooting for a December 3 2008 release of they're long.... and I mean 10 years long awaited sequal to one of the most influential RTS games of all time. Its been said various stores have recieved info about a possible shipping from Blizzard during that time. Im guessing they might try to pull this off in time for Christmas, hopefully we can look forward to this game with no delays but knowing Blizzard who knows if that will be possible. Starcraft 2 has been in developtment for 6 years since they released Warcraft 3. During this long time we might actually be able to look forward to this game this year and in time for Christmas.

I REALLY hope it's true. I played it last August and aside from the sound not being done it felt great. Great balance and the new units were really polished.

my sources (kotaku) say that the Dec. 3rd date has been debunked by blizz. also, this is blizzard...they never set release dates anymore cause they'll never meet it. it'll come out "when its done"

so we can all be hyped up for starcraft 2 in .....2 years :P

I MUCH prefer to have it "when it is done" instead of some ridiculous release date with 2 patches out before you can buy it.  (looking at you EA)

Um... remember Starcraft Ghost?

Like, when they said, "Not ready yet" until eventually, they just cancelled the whole damn thing?

Fuck that, I don't trust Blizzard.

Give me an incomplete buggy game. Release a patch later.

Except that the interest in ghost was a lot lower than in their main titles. No, blizzard knows what the fuck they're doing. Starcraft is by far their best title, everyone loves it and it's in just about every league tourney. They're not going to let go of Starcraft or Diablo because they love pleasing their fans and making assloads of money in the process. The sequels to world's greatest RTS followed by the world's favourite hack-and-slash RPG are going to come out. A 2d adventure game based on an RTS that meets publishing problems? Fuggedaboudit. A resource-sucking FPS based on an RTS that people want a sequel to that is supposed to come out on consoles which much of your company never worked with, plus the fact that people aren't very excited about it? Fuggedaboudit.

certain games have to be released. companies invest so much that they wouldn't be able to survive without it. I think Starcraft is one of these games, Blizzard could be royally fucked if they don't release by 2008. 6 years development with no return is a lot of wasted capital.
yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

Blizzard could spend years making no money and still be fine because of the Sickening income form WoW

Why glide on income of a pre-existing product when you can introduce a new one and make even more money? No business ever stops making new products.

Wasn't trying to say they are or will in the future, just saying that if they wanted more time to make SC2 better they have it easily without even considering money.

if you're entire business plan for 5 years is based upon getting windfalls for the release of certain titles even existing income may not be enough to stave off angry creditors. might not put them out off business but it could cause serious hassle.

i dont think Blizzard is in any remote range of financial issues. every game theyve produced in the last 10 years has sold over a million copies. that plus the absolutely ridiculous income from WoW, and now the fact that tehy are under the great and powerful Activision umbrella, means they can do whatever the hell they want, for as long as they want.

and no, their business plan isnt based off of profits from WoW. Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 have been in development for 4 years each, back when WoW was still in beta. they've definitely had cards up their sleeves, they just needed to bait gamers a bit more and managed to line their pockets with gold in the meantime :P
