I found a clip of this video on youtube and tracked down a source of the whole interview. I don't know which way the New Yorker leans or if anybody even reads it...but honestly I wouldn't be very shocked if this were true. Just read into the Iran Oil Exchange that opened a few months ago.

Anyways here is the CNN interview:

Here is the article if you care to read:

Does this seem likely? Are you surprised? Do you think we will see Iran become the next Iraq before the current administration is given the boot? Interesting times...

Interesting piece.  First of all, its pronounced Ee-ron, not Eye-ran, if the guy is going to talk about the place, get it right!  Secondly, this could get very ugly, and I am quite concern for the family I have in Iran, as both Bush and Ahmadinejad are both quite radical and seem to be looking for a fight.  A bit of trivia, Ahmadinejad is actually part of a radical group (I can get the name of the group and the source if anyone is interested) that even Ayatullah Khomeini thought was too radical!  To make matters worse, there is some evidence that he thinks he may be Islam's 12th Imam (return of one of Islam's spiritual leaders), which could could add to power going strait to his head (more-so).  I would welcome the day when Iran becomes stable, because as a Baha'i, I risk persecution or even death if I set foot in Iran due to the lack of tolerance the once great land had (Cyrus the Great).  The people of Iran are growing restless, it can be seen in many different ways, and I think that it is only a matter of time before they overthrow the corrupt regime themselves.  Until then we should just ignore Ahmadinejad, as he's only doing this for attention.  If you're interested, this book is very good at talking about the hostility between Iran and America.  It may change your views on the subject, I'm half-Persian and it certainly gave me a lot to think about.

STFU about pronouncing words in their accents. I'm not going to say ee rawn because that's not my accent. You don't hear middle easterners saying "Uh-mericuh", they say "aw-mereecah" like they should because that's their accent. Pretentious fucker.

I've read that, and found it to be very interesting.

And the thing that you didn/t mention and probably should have is the fact that Ahmadinejad has very little power.......He has a cadre of religious officials who control his every move, and if he goes against them then he loses power....So it is not just an individual that we need to wait to fall, it is the entire system....That sad, I do not support an invasion of Iran, or anything of the sort, not even UN sanctions outside of the NPT enforcement.
Suffers from the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency — nay — the very existence of George W. Bush

The main reason I didn't bring that up actually is because, while he doesn't have much power, he does have the support of the more conservative clergy because he's just as conservative as they are, if anything he's the guy who'd probably go too far (see his persecutions of Bahais and homosexuals, for example).  I think it goes without saying this guy has issues.  I'm not saying we should invade, quite the opposite actually, I think given enough time, the Persian people will overthrow the system because they're tired of it.

They had to shop the picture they released though. They said four were launched, but an analysis shows one failed, so they shopped in the last.
