So here I am in my new apartment. I moved in on June 28th. I had TW Cable internet and tv at the previous apartment, but had them switch it to the new address when I moved. Basically it was a change of address on the account. Apparently TW can't even trust their installation gimps, so I was required to return the (almost brand new) equipment from the old place to a TW office and the install gimp would supply new stuff. Okay fine. The gimp installed everything fine on the 28th. Everything worked just peachy.
Fast forward 16 days to Tuesday morning. All of a sudden both the internet and cable tv both go out. I just assume it is something temporary and go about my business for an hour or so. After noticing that everything is still MIA, I decide to call TW and find out WTF is up. Daniel (aka TW rep #1) eventually tells me that a voluntary disconnect was scheduled on July 5th for service to be cut on July 14th. Then, for reasons still unknown, it was rescheduled from the 14th to the 15th. A disconnect is the act of physically severing the coaxial cable and not a flip of a switch. Daniel seems to think the previous tennant scheduled the voluntary disconnect, but that seems odd since that person moved out at least 4 weeks before the disconnect was originally scheduled. I just want my shit working, so I pretend everything makes sense and feel reassured when Daniel (supposedly) schedules someone to come out later in the day. The phone number tied to my TW account happens to be my vonage number (and obviously that won't work without intarwebs) so I give him my cell number for someone to contact me when a tech is coming out. Hours later I still haven't heard anything from anyone. It is going on 3pm (and the damn All Star game comes on in 2 hours) so I call TW.
TW rep #2 (I didn't catch her name) has me go through the whole story again. Let's say I live at 2055 Chingadero St Apt A, Fountain Valley CA 92708. Rep #2 tells me that they actually terminated service to the wrong address. Apparently TW was supposed to disconnect 2056 Chingadero St Apt B. So, not only did the tech get the wrong apartment number, but he was across the street in a completely different complex. Rep #2 apologizes numerous times and tells me a tech will call me between now and 7pm to fix the problem. Also, I am told my problem has been elevated to some sort of supervisor status. She also tells me that they can probably restore service without entering the apartment. I ask what number she will call and have to explain the whole vonage deal and give her my cell number. I wait around until about 5:30 and finally give up, because... you know, I want to see the All Star game. So I go to a friend's house to watch the game and wait for a call from TW. Surprise! 7pm rolls around and still no contact. I go on watching the game (and watching and watching). Finally the game ends (go AL) and I go home only to find that I still don't have tv or intarwebs
Now it is about 11:30pm so I think to myself, "self, you should call those clowns and see WTF is going on." Thomas (rep #3) has to be retold the whole story. He finally understands what is going on when I give him the "issue number" that I got from rep #2. Thomas tells me the previous rep scheduled a tech call for July 22nd (a whole week away). I tell him I was never informed of this. He cancels out that appointment and says the earliest is July 17th (two days away). Thomas tells me that everything "looks good" on his end and has me do the modem and box power cycle. I tell him the shit still ain't working. Thomas then tells me that "Jean" is going to call me in 10 minutes when she gets off another important call.
Apparently "Jean" is a supervisor. 30 minutes go by (now it is past midnight) and "Jean" still hasn't called, so I call TW again. Enter David (rep #4). I ask David if this is the Ontario (California, not Canada) center. He says it is. I ask if there is a Thomas there. David says he isn't sure and asks what this is about. I explain the whole gawd damned story again and how I was waiting for a call from "Jean." He puts me on hold where I wait for a few minutes. Now I get an incoming call on my cell from a 909 number (which Ontario is a part of) and answer. I miss the woman's name while trying to switch speakerphone off, but I confirm it is Jean (rep #5). Jean comes off quite rude and says she was told I wanted to speak with her. I tell her about my conversation with Thomas and how he said she was supposed to be calling me with information. I basically end up explaining the whole shituation to her. She won't confirm or deny the mistaken address part, but tells me the 17th (two days away) is the earliest appointment. Jean also tells me someone *might* be able to come tomorrow (the 16th) and that I will be reached on my cell phone.
I don't know what else to do. Everytime I talk to someone new, I have to explain everything all over again and it seems progress is being made. In the end, though, I find out during the me next conversation that nothing is really going anywhere. Oh, but I am being refunded my whole $3/day or whatever for when the service is out. Yeah, that generous offer really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I've had similar issues with Comcast. There is really nothing you can do when they have a monopoly in your area. Even when they don't have a monopoly your other choice is usually the phone company with their crap DSL and "service" that is just as bad. Basically, you are fucked and you will continue to be fucked until the big dumb corporation decides to stop fucking you for awhile. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Friend has them. And yes, they blow. Every time there's a problem, they take forever to fix it. Meanwhile her internets are down, yet she still has to pay for the time she can't connect because of their screwup. It probably won't accomplish anything and it's probably illegal everywhere, but you could ask Whut for one of his signature giant turds and mail it to them in a small colorful shoebox, with a ribbon for a bow. I'm just saying. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." We have been having alot of problems with TW cable in Ohio lately, at least in my part. TW cable in this part has basically made a monopoly, so they can choose whether they want to help you tomorrow.....or a week and a half from the day you called. It has been about 4 months now that our cable and internet have been messing up. With the internet, they introduced "turbo road runner" which was supposed to be faster, but since we didnt want to pay the extra for that, it seems like the "ordinary" internet has declined in quality ever since. I think there is something fishy going on.
And then theres the cable tv. For about the same time, the signal keeps breaking up and whatnot. I dont know how many times we have called time warner to fix our problems...too many to try to remember. Its the same thing- a different person each time and you ahve to explain the whole situation again, as well as what the other tech;s TRIED to do to help the problem.
TW cable needs to have some competition, becuase they charge whatever rates they wish and are uncontested. They have the freedom to decide whether you get a rebate for not having service or not. I dont have a good opinion of TWC but its the only choice here, since we dont want satellite.
Oh yeah, TWC is also very skimpy on calling out service outages during storms and whatever....dont want to send out any crew unless like five million people call in.
Good luck with sorting things out.

I've had TW Cable for many years in So Cal and I've been pretty impressed. Every time there's an outage, Oh wait I haven't had one. I move around a lot so I always have the latest modem, and the pricing tiers for TV are right on par with everyone else (so, expensive as shit, but not more than the next dick monopoly.) Just go into the nearest TW office. Phones are stupid. Talk to a human And demand a human supervisor. THey can probably do it. silverwasp wrote:Be careful what you wish for... Same here.

I took that suggestion and marched into the local office (which is only a few miles away). I have an all day appointment for today (which means someone should be coming between now and 7pm). That works a lot better for me. Thanks for the idea. Now all I need is for a gimp to actually show up and restore service.

Anyone else surprised that Cantrip has friends?? And female ones at that??

They're even anatomically correct, or so I hear. You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit." In summary :
I moved into this apartment.
16 days later, the cable TV and internet got shut off.
I called a bunch of idiots at the cable company and explained they shut off service to the wrong apartment.
Now, I can't download porn.
I don't know what to do.
