Anybody else excited? Anybody else going to go pick up the game at midnight tonight? And if so, for which system? I've only seen a couple reviews so far, one which purports the only difference being whether you get Yoda or Vader, and another that gives a graphical advantage to the PS3. Owning both systems, I find I'm often faced with choosing which is better in two virtually identical games (GTA4, Assassin's Creed, etc.), and here we are again. One difference I definitely see here, though, is that unlike most of those others, I really might play Soul Calibur online, but I'm not willing to shell out money for Xbox Live Gold, much of which (and increasingly so as time goes by and Sony adds to the competition) you get for free on PS3. Assuming that fact, I'm actually getting more game for my money, quite literally, by buying the PS3 version, am I not? I'm just excited about jumping back into the Soul Calibur universe, seeing if anyone else out there is, and maybe see if anyone here wants to hit up some multiplayer sometime. Any takers?

Eh, feel free to not be excited. It doesn't kill my buzz, it just means I'm going to have a better day than you. HolyJaw wrote:In the end, everything Endyss said.

Yeah I'm just goofing around (I usually am) Anyways IIRC Soul Caliber was a predominately playstation-oriented series so I never got into it. I think I played it before but I may have it confused with some other japanese fighter. If it was in fact soul caliber it didn't impress me too much. I saw the commercials for this and the whole yoda and vader thing.. seemed pretty gimmicky to me. Plus I just absolutely refuse to play any new star wars games. Soul caliber was the series that had the game where you could play volleyball with the female characters, right? I heard there was some cheat or something to make the girls topless. That was probably just a classroom rumour though.

To use your quote, LOLOLOLOLOLOZ!!No, ≠ The former being Soul Calibur, and the latter being "Dead Or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball." I suppose the busts are similarly overdone, but in terms of artistry (and relative exploitation of their female personas), there is no comparison at all. Soul Calibur is generally a more approachable fighter, depending less on counters, combos, and timing than other fighters like DOA or Virtua Fighter. I'm not generally much of a fighting game person (Smash Bros. aside), but I've always found this series to be amazing visually and aurally and a huge amount of fun to play. It's also known (as far as I know) for producing a lot of flash and effect without having to memorize a character's move list. Melodramatic, I know, but this trailer gives a taste of why I'm excited... As far as the Star Wars thing, ya it IS a gimmick, but IMO it doesn't impact the game all that much. It's not "Soul Calibur: Star Wars Edition." And incidentally, they did something similar with SC2, with the PS2 version receiving an exclusive Heihachi (fighter from the Tekken series), the Xbox version receiving Spawn (by Todd MacFarlane), and the GC version receiving... who else, Link. Overall, the game is about far more than could possibly be ruined by the inclusion of one or two "questionable" characters.

Same here, but Soul calibur never really held my attention. I will admit, though, I only played the gamecube version of #2.
I'll give it a try at the Penguin Lan.

oh man ima have to run out and get this in like...3 hours or so as far as ps3 vs. 360, honestly i think graphically they'll be the same. also blurring lines is the standing rumor that darth vader and yoda will be available via download at a later point. so for me at least, it all boils down to multiplayer capability, and xbox wins taht one hands down. it jsut has the greater community base. and Lead, the order of Soul Calibur games weent: Soul Edge (PS) Soul Calibur (Dreamcast, this was one of the few must-have games for the system) Soul Calibur 2 (major systems) soul calibur 3 (major systems) soul calibur legends (which we try to forget ever happened) and now Soul Calibur 4 (major systems) also, the game always hits the arcades first, the consoles are jsut ports Bah Weep Granah Weep Ninny Bong

You're scrubby. I might pick it up just because I'm so desperate for a fighter to play until Tekken 6 hits PS3, but only because one of my friends beta'ed it and can get it to me for $20. Soul Calibur is a scrubby mashfest, but at least it's a prettier, slightly better one than DoA.
