Anyone looking forward to this? Video of John Carmack talking about what the goals and hopes are for Quake live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMvg56PV1vs Website http://www.quakelive.com/ Sign up for a chance to become a tester. In a nutshell graphically Quake live is built on the Quake III engine with slightly updated graphics. The focus of ID is on perfected gameplay & feel and, as far as I understand it, QL will be a massive multiplayer shooter. The game will be absolutely free and payed for by in-game advertising. I'm really excited about this game.

The real question is... Can you hold a flashlight and shoot at the same time?

Dude I enjoyed Quake 3 except for bugs and graphical errors. I'm guessing they have it all fixed and it will be better than ever now. Freaking sweet. What are you talking about? I never had any bugs come up in Q3.....never saw any graphical errors either except when ppl had goofy models they imported. Quote:

I would always be able to see through walls and it would mess me up way more than you would think. I couldn't tell if someone was in front of a wall or behind it so it would hurt. Every time I got to like 10 kills in a row when it starts showing icons (i'm a bit fuzzy it's been a while) the game would start overlaying everything and crash. There was also something about the photon gun (the one that shoots blue balls) that was wrong but I can't remember. As much as a Quake fan as I am....I would have been excited for this 9 years ago when Q3 came out and I didn't have to buy it. I can just as easily loadup Quake 3 and play that.
Its only free to those that didn't buy Quake 3...other than that I haven't heard any other features besides "updated" graphics that make it any different. I maybe wrong though

So basically it never happened right?

Playing online with hundreds or thousands of people at a time doesn't sound different? Excuse me If I say that you sound a little disingenuous.

Yea...sounds like great fun <sarcasm>..couple things though
1: More players = more lag
2: More players = getting randomly killed 2 sec into your spawn (ok, maybe 5 sec into your spawn w/ the spawn invul. most games give you)
I'm sure it will be fun...but it sounds like ID is getting all hyped over something they've already done...but its new...and FREE..oOooooO
Quake 1 was still the best

Another thing I just learned... The game...is played in your browser! Zoiks! Carmack means it when he says this whole thing might fall flat on its face.

Carmack means it when he says this whole thing might fall flat on its face. That's a recipe for disaster. Browsers are pretty limiting when used as containers for other things. It still amazes me I've seen Flash do some of the stuff I've seen it do.

If the makers of MAG can squeeze the data to get 256 players on one map, then I'm sure ID can run a stupid browser game. Chase: the only refuge i have from my mom is when i go to my gf's Me: I have no gf, just palmela handerson Chase: Well at least you aren't a double amputee.
