http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/cp_steel.htm

For those of you who hate links;

A complex Attack/Defense control point map, with some unique gameplay. Unlike most TF2 maps, capturing a control point modifies the layout of the map, opening and closing routes for each team. As a result, the offensive team has a wide variety of tactical choices around how they'd like to assault the final point. Should they use Scouts and Soldiers to rush the final point with only the routes they start with? Should they go for the side control points and open up more routes to the final? Should they capture extra points to shut down the defender's routes? The many choices keep the map interesting for a long time, providing a wide variety of experiences in a game.

Also a schedule of several release updates can be found Here.

- Enjoy.

Oh.

Sweet.

Question.
Does our official map server include the maps released in these updates?

It seems like it would.

But I am a peon.

These community maps selected for update release actually become valve official release maps, so I don't think we should exclude them.

Anybody who DL or Buys TF2 will get these maps as part of thier official DL, and Valve tweaks and updates the artwork....they graduate from community maps to official.  Valve LOVES to follow this development model....let the community design/create content....pick it up, polish it, and release it to the masses.  I think HL and HL2 are the only projects that were thier brainchild.   Portal, TF, DoD, L4D....all mod community or independant developer diamonds in the rough that Valve cut into Gems....

I'd suggest we try putting up a 24/7 server for this map the instant it goes out.
If it takes off in popularity and we're among the first to have a 24/7 for it, it could provide a nice influx of new regulars.
If it doesn't take off, well.. we set the server back to what it was. No loss, no gain.

I would think so but the server would still need to be restarted via WDF. I can already see a CP_steel 24/7 server going.

We could start running the map now, since its a community map and then we can just update the server later. I also think it is very mean of valve to keep all the rest of the details for further release this week and next week. I hope the weapons are next.

Indeed. This will be quite the defensive challenge. It sounds like you'll need to set up defenses at the "last" capture point right away. Unfortunately, if it's true you can go straight to it... I wonder how often there will just be giant scout rushes, hoping to catch the defenders away at secondary points...

When I first read it, I got the sense that the other secondary points were supports. Capturing them would make it easier to cap the last ( capture goes faster, more routes open, etc )

Easier, yes.. but not impossible. What I envision is cp_gravelpit with a path straight to C. The defensive team usually doesn't even try defending A and B both.

However, if that screenshot is the last point... it looks like you'd have to be a double-jumping scout to get to it like that. Looks like there's a bridge that expands, probably as other points are unlocked.

Guess I'll see when I play it!
