So much for the human rights issue in China. It hurts to read this because I'm Asian and it could likely happen to me. Good thing I'm in Canada, bitches.

It can really happen to anyone, but especially if you aren't a cracker. I've read of several cases where random Americans have been picked up by ICE and then treated like shit. One of the worst was that poor retarded boy that wound up getting dumped on the streets of Tijuana. I don't know if they ever found him, but he was born and raised in the US. The number of horror stories about what happens once ICE gets a hold of you is in itself terrifying. It's clear that it's not just a few fuckups but a systemic policy of disregard for basic human rights. There's something like 300,000 people that they have prisoner, almost none of them have been convicted of a crime. Chinga la migra. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

There are always two sides to a story. Yes, the casualty is unfortunate and the government should have handled the situation completely different, but if you break the law... you go to the detention center. He overstayed his visa, he broke the law, he went to the detention center. This guy isn't a complete victim. However, I'd hardly call the government victimized by his crime, and it was handled terribly. I'm sure a lot of people fake things to get special treatment when they're arrested, but they should still be investigated to see if anything is wrong. They said his pain began months before, and he didn't go to a doctor then? With some cancers, if you don't catch it early then you're FAR more likely to be in bad shape down the road. We still wouldn't know what have happened if he got treatment earlier. For all we know, it would have been unlikely he would live even then. There really isn't enough information in this article to pull a 100% FIREPOWER against the government for it. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

There really isn't enough information in this article to pull a 100% FIREPOWER against the government for it. From how I read it he was arrested last summer and the back pains began this past April. So... not before he was arrested. He was also arrested while going for his final interview for a green card. He was trying to be legit, and his reward was to get arrested. His situation aside, that kind of thing just scares illegal immigrants that much further away from trying to become legal. Then there's the immigration officer pressuring him to drop his appeals. What right does he have to do that?

This wouldn't smell so foul if not for a few things:
He was going for his green card interview when he got nabbed.
He was married to a US citizen
He was royally butchered in treatment by the ICE
The statue of liberty still has those "stupid" words written on it.
At least all of the above need to be changed and fixed before I'll feel anything but disgust with this.

Marriage is no automatic citizenship or greencard machine. Hell, my uncle was married for some 10 years before he could even apply for citizenship. You gotta prove the marriage was legitimate.

It's sad.....and unfortunate.
It's the result of the ineptitude of the local ICE office....Don't spin it into some police state conspiracy of cruelty or government intent. That's fucking crazy talk. The longer I live the more I realize that pretty much 90 percent of everything (gov, business, event administration, etc) is going along....just barely keeping all the wheels on behind the scenes. That's why when people try to generalize specific incidents to a grand "plan" or "intent" or "conspiracy" I just dont fucking believe it. It's always a small group of people who fucked up because they were: cruel, stupid, late, bored, etc that causes some event to go down.
Dick is giving too much credit to the agencies he dispises. He believes there is some sinister Cabal who are clever enough to be carrying out a subtle master plan ,seeded in cruel indifference, to undermine freedom and liberty for the masses of humanity who wish to come to our country. And that they have foolishly slipped up enough to allow him to see what they are doing!
The reality is that sometimes unfortunate things happen because people are imperfect and can destroy even the most well designed systems. Quote:

Now, now. I don't exactly see where Dick implied that this was any part of some kind of master plan. It seems to me this is a clear cut example of what happens when you put profits in front of human well-being. If Mr. Ng was held in a privately owned detention center it would not be surprising if they tried to retain him as long as possible, since the profitability of these businesses is directly related to how many people they detain. It's too bad they did not list the detention centers where he was detained. Updated: here is a list of all the detention facilities operated by ICE: http://www.ice.gov/pi/dro/facilities.htmUpdated: Here is Mr. Ng's Petition for Habaes Corpus http://www.scribd.com/doc/4796009/Hiu-Lui-Ng-Petition-for-Habaes-CorpusIt lists the Wyatt Detention Facility of Rhode Island http://www.wyattdetention.com/Quote:Wyatt is a correctional facility owned by the Central Falls Detention Facility ("CFDF"), a public corporation controlled by the City of Central Falls, and operated by Cornell Corrections of Rhode Island ("CCRI"), a private corporation controlled by Cornell Companies, Inc. ("CCI"), itself a private corporation. You wanna take this to Fuck Town? Oh gadzooks, yes!

This statement iswhat keyed me into my post. Along with just the general theme of Dick's posts about proof of police state actions....He is famous for them.

However the business' policies may have played into that negligence. This is a for profit business after all. I am only suggesting that there may be a conflict of interest somewhere in the system. In fairness however, the Wyatt facility did just receive a 3 year Accreditation and is one of the highest rated facilities in our country. http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS98716+04-Apr-2008+PRN20080404Giller [GwDR wrote:]

fair enough. It'd be a bigger concern if it was a frequent occurence.
