So I was playing medic the other day and was getting close to uber in the middle of a pretty heavy firefight. Already hurt, I started right-clicking so that the uber would pop the moment it was ready. Instead... I dropped a medpack and lost my charge.

The medpack drop is cool and all, but it seems to get in the road of the uber now and then. Can this be tweaked to drop medpacks when the bonesaw is held, instead?

You did not have a full charge.  You had a premature uberization.  It is okay.  It happens to all men as some point.  The important thing is that you can still uber.
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

You can always wait for the bar to start flashing before you start to uber. I don't think it can be switched considering it uses up uber charge. Since its the ammo used for dropping packs you need to see the ammo. Same with the engy, but its better since metal only shows up on the wrench and isn't used for anything else then melee and building up stuff.

It seems to me that if I were Valve, I would do my best to convey important information with as many cues as I could. I would have sound cues, visual cues, and a vibrating cue. Unfortunately, the vibrating cue will have to wait. I should put this cool sound effect and the medic saying "I am charged!" which, when added to the flashing uber progress bar, would alert the player instantly of their uber-ready status.

Oh wait. I did.

'Cause I'm Valve.

I don't know why I try to be funny. Oopsie beat me to it anyway.

If it were tweaked that way, then anytime I wanted to drop a medpack ( if I'm about to die and want to help anyway ) then I'd have to switch to the saw to do that. Given the intense and rapid pace of combat, I doubt I would have the presence of mind to do so, much like I entirely forget that we even *have* that plugin.

Yup I suppose. Just wanted to open up for discussion. It's my way of dealing with my premature uberation problems.

it sometimes helps to rub (gently) a local anesthetic on your uber before use.  It will prevent premature uberization.  Either that or viagra on your motherboard. (apologies to Oedipus)

Wow. You went there? Really?? And Oedipus wouldn't mind - by that time, he couldn't see the problem anyway.

That ability has actually saved my ass numerous times.  Be at low health, right click and back to full.

It's definitely great for that. But when I have explosions all around me and I'm trying to watch my own health, I never notice the voice or the changes of when I finally get uber. And then you could always hear *another* medic get his uber and try to blow yours thinking you were ready.

I'd also put forth the notion that this is messing with the Arena balance a bit. Having medpacks around in a map where you respawn, that has medpacks laying around, and has the supply cabinets, their value is decent. When you have a map/playstyle that's specifically about not respawning, having few (if any) medpacks, and not having supply cabinets... their value is astronomical. As such, it deters the map away from what Valve intended it to be.

I can groove with that idea. No medic/engy drop mod for temp4.

Temp4, btw, is a raging success now.

You also have the visual indicator which is those fun bolts of energy swirling around your otherwise calm ejacu-er..heal beam.
