QUICK BACKGROUND: Seeing as how I am from the US I have never been a big fan of futbol (soccer for us yankees), I have never had a desire to play the sport nor have I ever seen more than five minutes of a game broadcasted on the tv, nor have I ever before seen a game that wasn't televised in spanish...... The US loses to Ghana today 2-1, eliminating them from the world cup in the first round. Never in a sporting event that I have witnessed have I seen such bullshit. now i'm not talking about the calls or the managerial decisions, im talking about the players. Im talking about the sloppy footwork, the hesitation to take a shot, the (almost deliberate) bad passes, the lack of any contribution from the star Donovan, Keller constantly kicking the ball to Ghanas goalie instead of keeping possession. Now I know these dudes have to run around for an hour and a half, and they are great athletes, but it looked to me like they were trying to give it away. all I'm trying to say is someone made a lot of money today... Mr. Wolsheim???? You wanna take this to Fuck Town? Oh gadzooks, yes!

Ive seen most of the games, but I unfortunately had to miss this one. I did however hear that they played like crap. This could be for the better though. The US needs a better team, but there isnt a lot of support from people here. This is slowly changing, I know people that HATE soccer, that are actually paying attention to the World Cup this time around. If more people here in the US started watching or even caring about soccer, I garauntee that the team would get better and better. Soccer is HUGE in every county but the US and maybe Canada, if your country is poor, virtually worthless, but you have a good soccer team, youve got respect. A better soccer team means much more respect from foregin countries, something we could really use in this day and age. AKA Shinobi Quote:Kick some giga-butt

Are you implying the game was fixed? HAHAHAHAHAH! lets look at the facts shall we? USA = richest country in the world Ghana = among the poorest countries in the world FIFA = Moenyhungry bastards FIFA would have WANTED the USA to win because it would have raised the profile of the game, in the U.S.... which means more money for them... why would they want a country as poor as Ghana to win where soccer is already one of the favourite sports? Where's the money in that? lets face up to the facts: The USA are a shite team, Claudio Reyna is one of your stars... Ghana have Essien and Appiah... Ghana are a very good team... the fact USA had such a high ranking going into the WC was FIFA bullplop trying to get a feelgood factor going over there, and just serves to prove my point... and how can you be respected in other countries if you get sore over a loss like this where, at the end of the day Bill, the better team won. yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

I havent watched much news today, but I for one have not seen or heard of anyone being sore over the loss. Surely people are mad that their team lost, but not sore . Of the people I've talked to about the game, which is quiet a few, and the one bit of news I did see about the game, it seems that the majority of the dissapointment is aimed at the players. Not at the officiating. MakeSureItsCharcoalGrilled wrote: The USA are a shite team
Truth. This game, or entire series rather, has brought this issue to the forfront more than ever IMO. AKA Shinobi Quote:Kick some giga-butt

i was so dissappointed with their performance. i woke up at 6 this morning. The entire game i kept thinking "man they're playing like i did in the 8th grade" Keller has no idea what it means to come out of the box, Beasley was walking for most of the game, donovan was doing absolutely nothing. Kudos to Dempsy for being the only on the field who showed some actual hussle. I am mad. What a crap game. just thought i would throw my 2 cents in here. i have to agree that the US didn't play very well in this entire tournement. but if you look at their history, they have never won a world cup game in Europe. i know this isn't an excuse, but just ironic. as far as them being a shit team (and their rank), you have too know how the system works to be able to interprete the rankings. just because you have a higher rank then sopmebody, doesn't mean that you are a better team then them. the ranking system is based on a point system. you get points for international matches and tournements. the points are always cumulative and are based on winnning, goal differential, and other stuff. the US have a high rank because they have won a lot of games over the last few years and have acumulated a lot more points then other countries. it is possible that lower ranked european countries are a better team, but they are lower in the rankings because they have less points.
the US is still a young team when if comes to playing the game on a large scale. soccer is growing at a good rate in this country right now. if you look at how many US players are playing internationally for clubs this world cup as opposed to last world cup its amazing. the US has a lot of talent, they just need more time to mature with the game. if you don't know what i'm talking about, you won't get his argument. but its the reason why european teams are so good. i think that the US is a good team (skill, stamina), they just don't have the experience they need. In time they will, and people will start respecting them for their wins, instead of calling them flukes and bitching about their rank.

you seem to be misssing my point... i was adressing the fact that the original poster seemed to think the macth was fixed... and as for the ranks.... hell the ranks make Ireland look a lot better than they are, they are a flawed system that what i can figure is designed to make lesser countries appear better than they are for promotional purposes... and i didn't call them flukes... just shite... and success at youth level has nothing to do with it... once again to take my own country as an example, Ireland won the u16 Euro championships a few years ago and now only a handful of those players are still playing professional... yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.
