The law governing who may run for President of the United States of America clearly states "A Presidential candidate must be a natural born citizen of the United States", yes McCain was borin in Panama. Panama is it's own country, having won it's independance from Spain on November 28th, 1821 and then Columbia on November 3rd, 1903. Since it was it's own country before U.S. invasion in 1989, and McCain was not born then, I question his ability to be able to run for President.

It seems unsettled. Here is more :

John McCain, who ran for the Republican party nomination in 2000 and is the Republican nominee in 2008, was born at the Coco Solo U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone to U.S. parents. Although the Panama Canal Zone was not considered to be part of the United States,[6] federal law states: "Any person born in the Canal Zone on or after February 26, 1904, and whether before or after the effective date of this chapter, whose father or mother or both at the time of the birth of such person was or is a citizen of the United States, is declared to be a citizen of the United States."[7] The law that conferred this status took effect on August 4, 1937, one year after John McCain was born — albeit with retroactive effect, resulting in McCain being declared a U.S. citizen.[8] However, the question as to whether or not he is a citizen from birth cannot be answered by this law because (1) it took effect after his birth and (2) it does not state that the person's citizenship was acquired at birth, only that they are a citizen by means of the law's establishment (and, hence, at the time the law takes effect). Indeed, the law in 1936 stated that all persons born to two US citizen parents outside the "limits and jurisdictions of the United States" are citizens at birth, but the problem is that the Panama Canal Zone was explicitly excluded. (8 U.S.C. 173 (1925): "The term 'United States' shall be construed to mean the United States, and any waters, territory, or other place subject to the jurisdiction thereof, except the Isthmian Canal Zone.") The status of Mr. McCain's citizenship at birth nonetheless remains unsettled.[9]

So by your argument, there are a lot of mexicans and other nationalities that could be President.

This is true.  Same goes for persons born on embassy soil.  Those little patches of land are considered sovereign territory by the countries that operate within them.
In any event, the law is there to prevent foreign naturalized citizens from being able to run for president.   Technically he held no foreign citizenship prior to the law that officially made him a us citizen.  The spirit, or purpose of the requirement is still fulfilled. So I think he is okay.

The question is how the Panama canal was specifically excluded, so does that have an effect on the law set after he was born?

I can see yet another supreme court decision in this election.  Wouldn't that be something? lol

I believe this was designed to be a one-time application of citizenship for the residents of the canal zone (workers, engineers, etc) who had childeren during construction....however, the second part is a stop gap.
My guess is that they excluded it because they didn't want a loophole allowing for the canal zone to somehow turn into a US citizen factory after the territory was returned to panama decades later.

So tell me, Horse, if an otherwise perfectly eligible mexican-american whom with you agreed on every political issue wanted to be president, you'd say he shouldn't be allowed simply because he was born in Mexico?

What if Schwarzeneggar adopted every political theory you espouse, you wouldn't want him to be prez because he was born in Austria?

Honestly I don't agree with the law in the first place. Instead of being at least 35 years of age, they should be an American citizen and resident for at least 35 years prior to becoming president. There's a lot of immigrants that could make for better presidents than the ones we elect.
