I never thought a game could do this to  kid.  Sure Maplestory's community consists of mostly emo and little kids but I didn't know they were this bad.  Can this ever be reversed, are we doomed? Is this why the economy sucks?

But it's damn funny anyways.

Children who treat games like a drug addiction do so because the game shows them more love than their parents do. Poor kid is doomed to eventually get addicted to a game like WoW.

Nah, if anything this kid will contribute a lot to the economy. He's just the type of cash cow that would be susceptible to overpaying for expansion packs and subscribing to ten games at once.

The economy sucks because the income gap between upper and lower class is continually expanding, as rich people are greedy as hell and wouldn't dare spend enough money to reduce themselves back to the lower class, because money is often all that they have. It's just like the child in the video; picture George W. Bush as a screaming little child who can't seem to get enough attention from his busy parents. So he goes out and spends tons of money on drugs and booze as a teenager, but finds out that drugs and booze aren't a good substitute for love. Eventually he decides he's going to run his own companies in the hopes that he'll earn love in the form of profit and admiration from his co-workers. When all they return is failure, he tries his hand at politics, thinking he can earn the love of a state or even an entire nation. Years later he's at the end of his second presidential term, approval ratings at an all time low and his presidency marked as an example of what not to follow by both the Republican and Democratic candidates. Happiness will elude him like the chances of him becoming poor.

Haven't you herd? Video games are the new drugs of today. Weed, PCP, coke, ect.... are all so yesterday.

kids throw tantrums over shit likethis. There are a bunch of losers who would throw adult fits if their friends pulled them away from a raid in wow, just the same. Mario as a plumber I don't think you have the education or training to evaluate the current state or cause of the economy. :)

OK, a couple notes:

-You can literally hear the voice of the devil when the kid starts to make threats. "I WILL BEAT ALL OF YOUUUU"

-His fatass brother is probably only kicking him off to play WoW.

-Where the fuck are the parents? All involved need their asses beat.

-Seriously, his brother got him killed in MS. Without any MStore Cards, that's a 10% drop in EXP, and at higher levels that's about five or more hours of a constant grind. PQs just don't cut it. That's some fucked up shit man. Grinding in MS is worse than real MMOs because it's 2D, the quests are 1000x more boring, oh, and it's made for fucking kids.

-No, seriously, that's fucked up.

whats more fucked up is how you seem to know the formulas of XP in that game.

It might be a game but if someone comes in and does something that destroys hours worth of stuff you've worked on, wouldn't you be pissed off?

The economy comment was a joke. Yes I suppose if I did spend hours on a game and someone pulled me away I would be pissed. But that's why you have parents to prevent things like that.  Maplestory is such a joke of a game, sure it's free but to pay for items only for Nexon to strip them away from you?  It's funny to find a kid at his age throwing a tantrum because his brothers are taking him away from a game that is already screwing him over.

Eh. I played FlyFF for a while - another freebee game that makes money through selling items. There's a certain level of charm to them and if you make friends then it just becomes like any other social environment that ultimately leads to pressures of "being cool", and thus buying the items. I was suckered in. And I spent a stupid amount of money so I could appear "cool" by those I flew around to buff up. Even if I didn't play nearly long enough to justify the money I forked up, Entertainment feels cheap when you compare it to $10 for a 2 hour long movie.

Yeah I was also addicted to a MMORPG once too. It was Dark Age Of Camelot but it just had monthly fees no buying items for real money. I can completely understand though the struggle with trying to look cool in game.  I know that games like such can be overly addicting but that's where you need parents and if the little boy's parents aren't going to step in to put limits shit can hit the fan. He can become non social and like shown in the video gain an extensive vocabulary at such a young age. And especially since the community in Maplestory isn't all perfect.

Well, buying items should be easy for a parent to prevent. You need a credit card or access to things like Paypal in order to get them - which means either you're it's not a kid or the parents forked up the credit card. But with in-game accomplishments, I'm not sure what a parent could do besides completely forbid them from playing games where they earn/win stuff over time. Maybe game cards to limit the amount of time they can play but that just opens another can of worms: what if they make friends online? Now cutting them off from the game is cutting them off from their friends and there's all kinds of resentment in that sort of thing.

I was thinking around limiting their time in game. Making them do their academic work before playing games, especially because that is what the world needs in times like these. Kids are kids they should be making friends who they can see and actually play with.  It's hard to consider someone online a friend especially when your that age, they might decisive you. When they are adult, sure let them play whatever and whenever they want but at least they will have most basic living and social skills to survive on their own and not their mom's paypal.

I'm not doubting his pain. He'll I have you all beat. I played ultima online when it first went live. There is not now, or probably ever will be a game as unforgiving as that one. Every mmo is pathetically carebear. Ultima was the fucking wild west. Just as in RL, if you went into the wrong area at the wrong time, and got pk'd or killed. That was it buddy. You lost your über sword and armor. Have 5000000 gold onyou? Sorry dumbshit it's gone. Pickpocket got your key to your house. Well you better not hope he knows where you live! Dying inthat game meant something. I have never been in a cold sweat in any other mmo except ultima online. Being chased by pkillers on horseback knowing that if I didn't get away, then literally weeks of effort were gone. Along with unique weapons and armor I would probably never find again

You can still get laid virtually. It just takes text and imagination
