I know that this is almost 2 weeks old but somehow it slipped right past me.

Congressman Ron Paul was joined by Presidential candidates Ralph Nader (Independent), Cynthia McKinney (Green Party), and Chuck Baldwin (Constitutional Party) in a press conference where these third party candidates put aside their differences to pledge support for a 4 point policy created by them.

Here is the pledge

Quote:

We Agree

Foreign Policy: The Iraq War must end as quickly as possible with removal of all our soldiers from the region. We must initiate the return of our soldiers from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Europe and the entire Middle East. We must cease the war propaganda, threats of a blockade and plans for attacks on Iran, nor should we re-ignite the cold war with Russia over Georgia. We must be willing to talk to all countries and offer friendship and trade and travel to all who are willing. We must take off the table the threat of a nuclear first strike against all nations.

Privacy: We must protect the privacy and civil liberties of all persons under US jurisdiction. We must repeal or radically change the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the FISA legislation. We must reject the notion and practice of torture, eliminations of habeas corpus, secret tribunals, and secret prisons. We must deny immunity for corporations that spy willingly on the people for the benefit of the government. We must reject the unitary presidency, the illegal use of signing statements and excessive use of executive orders.

The National Debt: We believe that there should be no increase in the national debt. The burden of debt placed on the next generation is unjust and already threatening our economy and the value of our dollar. We must pay our bills as we go along and not unfairly place this burden on a future generation.

The Federal Reserve: We seek a thorough investigation, evaluation and audit of the Federal Reserve System and its cozy relationships with the banking, corporate, and other financial institutions. The arbitrary power to create money and credit out of thin air behind closed doors for the benefit of commercial interests must be ended. There should be no taxpayer bailouts of corporations and no corporate subsidies. Corporations should be aggressively prosecuted for their crimes and frauds.

Here is video of the press conference, from CSPAN2.

Honestly, I'm impressed. If any of these are values you hold important, you now know of three candidates who have specifically endorsed them.

Discussion please. Can a third party emerge from our biased system?
You wanna take this to Fuck Town?

Third parties exist simply to make Americans more aware, and to give Republicans and Democrats good ideas to steal for their campaigns.

Third parties tend to be a bit more extreme in their views as well, which makes it hard for voters to stand behind them. People like parties that stick near the middle of the general views of the nation. Stray too far and you might be labeled a terrorist or a hippie.

CANDIDATE PLAAAAAAANET

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm impressed at how far Nader will go to get a seat in the government. It takes determination to get last place for 20 years (no serious, he's done this for 20 years) and still keep going. I hope he gets something better then running for gold without looking at silver or bronze, because the man deserves it.

I really don't get how in the fuck the foreign policy would work.

Become isolationists?
Let Iran nuke Israel?
Let terror cells run rampant thru any part of the world except on US soil?
Let N Korea have its way with S Korea?

I don't really like the idea of the US being the "World Police", but there has to be some oversight over what some countries are doing (and don't even bring up the UN).

I'm pretty much all talked out on this subject but I will say that Bob Barr shot himself in the foot when he failed to heed Ron Pauls calling of unity. Ron Paul actually talked me into voting for Bob Barr as Paul was calling for unity and Barr was clearly the most viable candidate but Bob Barr in his little selfish mind became jealous and at the last minute decided to hold his own press conference.
He was the only third party candidate not to show up after already previously committing to the event.
So, in effect, Ron Paul talked me into voting for Bob Barr and Bob Barr talked me out of it.
To heck with Bob Barr. He can burn on the asheap of failed American political history.
I fly the Ron Paul banner and I do the footwork but the truth is I have little hope for America or that Ron Paul can restore the Republican party to anything resembling it's former self.
America has tossed itself in the fire and we will pay the price.

I feel much the same way, though I was never a big fan of Bob Barr in the first place.  I'll keep preaching the libertarian message of small government and free markets, but it's hard if not impossible to change people's minds, so the cycle will continue until it physically can't anymore.

Apparently I got her crossed with Maxine Waters.

McKinney is the one that thinks 9/11 was an inside job.  What a winner there.  Goes well with Fortress America Ron Paul.

Number one and number two, the Middle East is so full of old hatred, wars are bound to happen eventually. The only way there will be peace in the middle east is if the younger generations are not raised on hatred. They need leaders, strong leaders whom they can trust. And It's not going to be any of us. Foreign interference is only making matters worse. After all, Osama bin Laden said it himself. Think of it this way: What if one of our current candidates were elected but there was a question over the authenticity of the election, so the UN or some other foreign body decides it will interfere and oversee our democratic process to ensure that it is fair. Would you support that? If so, do you still think the majority of americans are going to be happy about it? What if we broke out in civil war and the UN came in to patrol our streets and tell civilians where they can and can't go? Would you be happy about that?

As far as Korea goes, I'm a huge supporter of South Korea. I wouldn't call myself an absolute perfect isonlationist because there are simply some governments that need to be cut down. An obvious example is the Third Reich. I also happen to believe that North Korea is just as despicable. The thing is, Kim Jong-il, if in his right mind, would never attack anyone around him because he would get the thunder from Japan, the US, SK itself (they have a pretty outstanding military, which we've helped them a lot in building) and quite possibly even China. However, Kim Jong-il probably isn't in his right mind. So we'll never know until it happens 8)

Wait wait wait just a second hold on. Are you suggesting that we let these other nations govern themselves? That we stay out of entangling alliances? That we stay out of the internal affairs of others nations? Rubbish. Wherever did you conjure up such bizarre ideas?

Answer = Yes. It probably got Bill Clinton elected.  Ross Perot received 19% of the popular vote.
