High School Valedictorian Refuses to Bow Down, Has Speech Censored

Brittany McComb was the valedictorian at Foothill High School recently. She graduated with a 4.7 GPA. She earned the right to address the other graduates at Foothill, located in Henderson, Nevada.

She gave a copy of her graduating speech to the school administrators. It contained some Biblical references and even mentioned (one time) the name “Christ.” The school administrators censored some of the Biblical references. They also censored the single reference to Christ.

Then the school officials handed the speech over to the ACLU for approval and/or more censoring. After getting the OK from the ACLU, Brittany’s speech (minus the censored references to the Bible and Christ) was approved. Brittany was warned that if she deviated from the ACLU approved language, her mike would be cut off.

Then came the moment for the big decision. She would not bow down, she decided. She would go with her original version. She stepped to the mike and began her speech. But just before she could utter the name “Christ,” her mike went dead. School officials silenced her. The crowd of 400 jeered for several minutes, angry at the action of the school officials. The ACLU was happy. They had silenced another Christian.

“I went through four years of school at Foothill and they taught me logic and they taught me freedom of speech. God’s the biggest part of my life. Just like other valedictorians thank their parents, I wanted to thank my lord and savior,” Brittany said.
Because she refused to bow down to the ACLU’s idol of gold, she did not get her wish. She was censored.

GAL is freaked out over this... and the reporter spaled mic as mike... obviously not a gamer...

This young heroine deserves praise and a thank you from those who believe in free speech... what will be the outcome? Will the day come that you say combine you will be tossed in jail and beaten?... maybe not but my God... what has happened to this world?

Is the Father angry at those who bruised the heart of His daughter? Yes... Yes... in the end... they will pay...

If I was in her spot, I would have gotten a classmate to smuggle in a small megaphone or set it up so i could continue even with the speech, or just start yelling it. Thats complete BS.

School is over for them, its a speech designed to thank those responsible for where the person is. Its a speech designed to congradulate fellow classmates. If anything it should be up to the student's classmates, as it is directed at them. Its not directed at the schoolboard, and hell to the 4-5 graduations Ive been to, I dont recall seeing more than a quarter of the schoolboard there, unless they were parents of the graduates.

That school must have really been on the ball though, with enough time for them to personally censor the speech and have the ACLU censor it.

*gets ready to piss people off*

I'm kinda glad they did that, I think school and religion should be two completely separate institutions (just like religion and government but as if that has ever worked?)

I went to Catholic School for most of my life, you should see what kind of brainwashing shit they do there.

If you discover god on your own thats great!

Just keep my education and government  separate from your beliefs of where we all came from.  Christians are the most hypocritical people ever.

"We demand rights" : "Gay people can't get married."

"We arn't making you believe in salvation" : "But we'll shove it down your throat until you do"

While she was protecting her right to free speech this was in no way a case of religious persecution that many people are going to make it out to be.

I read ALL your private messages.

"I don't want the salami." -WDF

WDF: I told her that she could come over if she brought beer.
Sirus: Wait, you made the recovering alcoholic bring beer?
WDF: This shouldn't surprise you, this is me we're talking about... It'll be a test.

So true. If this was any other religion there wouldn't even be an arguement.

same Catholic brainwashing experienced here...  so yeah... totally agree with Sirus. Religion is a personal choice, it was intended as so (remember free will anybody?) and should always be...

and Alow was spot on... think the same noise would be made if the Kid was praising Allah in her speech!?! hell i'm sure the same Evangelists who oppose this would be among the first to try and censor her
yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

So... am I a hypocrite?

I hope not, although I mess up sometimes. There are hypocrites that call themselves Christian.... As for me, Jesus loves you all and I do too... and I am hardly PO'd Sirus... I pondered each word in this thread and understood their meaning... but I will defend the "Flag" of God. Here's my xbow and rpg... and the very tag I am honored to carry... Should I please men or please God?

Censor my declaration of love for {pDs} in the street... or in the Nyquil bar.... or in a public court... Never please. I would declare my love for each of you all the way to the Supreme Court... and in a speech to Congress, if called to do so... and much more so, my love of God.

I too hate "religion" and brainwashing.... but I love God... go figure... God said, "I am Love"... Is He wrong? I'm not shoving that down anyones throat anymore than what has been fed to the visitors in this forum... some good and some spoiled food... the truth is, my heart and brain has been washed by the Bible.... my spirit food and I see the rotten food.

I love the Word of God.  I have studied the Bible for over 30 years...  and in that, there is no shame... in Truth I can love you but hate a few of the deeds I read of... only because I have been there and done that. Oh... those dark days of pride and foolishness... Is GAL perfect? No, not yet. Like some of you, I strive for perfection.

Word: "You will know them by their words"... The Bible was part of public school until folks, like the ACLU, kicked God out of USA schools. Proverbs and Psalms was a choice of our founding fathers to use in teaching kids how to read (and spell, I might add)... God has been expelled from school... Is He angry? What do you think? How can man silence God Almighty? The earth is about to quake like never before and time, itself, will end as we know it. Is it nature or Him that created all things seen and unseen?

I personally believe that the 'expulsion of God's Wisdom from the hearts of children' is the source of all the current woes in America and the world... not because of true Christians desiring to honor God... but rather the "religions" and "rules" formed in the darkness of mens heart. Then came Vietnam and hippies like me... and Tomb. The only way to recognize a lie is to study and know Truth... like in Proverbs... Get Wisdom, beloved knuckleheads.... not the feeble wisdom of man only...

Here's an idea... let's stone GAL and silence his love for us because he fears God... and Jesus Christ is his Lord and he boasts of His doings...

I would be honored to die for that cause if it would bring the fear of God upon those that doubt His love for gamers and the world.

Why do people hate Christians and want to silence them? Jesus said, "They will hate you because they hated Me first."... and so it is.... Truth.

Peace... I do not lie.... some of you know I am writing truth. This is all I will say about "religion" versus Truth in this forum... but what do I know? I will silence myself.

Proverb: An honest witness tells the truth; a dishonest witness tells nothing but lies. Make fun of wisdom, and you will never find it. But if you have understanding, knowledge comes easily. Stay away from fools, or you won't learn a thing.

I was actually thinking the same thing, but I was too much of a pussy to say it.

Religion and School/Government should be seperate, but come on, its just a graduation speech. I thought about it again today, and I'm actually more pissed that the schoolboard has enough time on their hands to go through the process of screening it, and send it in to the ACLU. The schoolboard is a paid position in most areas IIRC, it makes me more angry that tax dollars are spent on something like this. Everytime I open a news-paper, there is something about a teacher having a relationship with their student, a teacher getting charged with felonies, or a teacher being hired with previous convictions. Schools should be spending what little resources they have on more important things than this.
