This is interesting.
I was once a scruncher. I would grab a fat piece and crumple it. The issue with this was sometimes I'd grab a little too much and use it anyway. This would generally not be an issue, but some toilets had small drains... and flooding soon followed.
One day my girlfriend found out I was a crumpler. She informed me that I was 8 years old and it was time to grow up. She explained the method to me about less paper and folding. I was nervous because I'm kind of a germaphobe. She assured me that toilet paper was expertly engineered to prevent breaching the fibers.
So I tried it. I've had huge success turning my old habits around.
I do not, however, fold, wipe, and then fold for additional wipes. Each fold piece is used once.
