Splinter - I upgraded from XP straight to 7 without any experience with Vista. It was a great transition. Windows 7 is really well designed, I think you'll like it. Some of the features take some getting used to, but they don't get in the way while you adjust to them. 7 also sped up my internet connection slightly and improved my boot time significantly. Pirating an OS other then Linux considering its already free, is a no no for me. No I'm not a student, even if I were I don't think Canada gets the same deal of W7 for 30 bucks.
