you don't need math to tell you that guy was either dead or totally fucked up for the rest of his life. at least they caught it on video so he can serve as a warning to others. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

And he jumped out. His initial velocity is still zero. There was no vertical component. He jumped out, away from the bridge. He started falling immediately in the vertical vector component, Vy, but that was Vyt. Whatever happens in the horizontal vector component, Vy, has no affect on the equation. Vy0 = 0.
For him to have had any vertical vector component he would have had to have been moving before he passed the starting point.
Anyway, a 56 mph smack to the head with the weight of a body behind it means no more handjobs for him.
1) yes ur right there is no horizontal component well as far as our analysis goes since were only looking for veolocity in the vertical frame
2)wind drag is always important especially with a mass that large
3)if u look at the picture he jumps down and right so there is a initial velocity which shifts the equaiotn i belive classical mechancis states V= v_0 +at with a=g here......
but ur generalizations as far as the movie goes are fine since ur estimating time of flight ....but i think ur using too many significant digits 2.64 or whatever ..should round it to neartst tenth.
3 hmmm what else ithink thats it but u got the basic equations correct...are u taking mechanics now? im actually majoring in physics w00t . also wind tends to travel odd around bridges....so image there can be an extra vertical force near bridge...not sure what direction Code:<a href="http://www.sloganizer.net/en/" target="_blank" title="Sloganizer - the slogan generator"><img src="http://www.sloganizer.net/en/image,Sloganizer,white,black.png" border="0" alt="generated by sloganizer.net" title="This slogan was generated by sloganizer.net"/></a>

something not being taken into account... what if he had enough bungee cord to get 3/4 the way down or so, which would of slowed down the impact and prevented the 56 to 0 in a split second? all the while, the cord not being elastic enough to pull him up off the ground at that distance... just enough to lesson the fall I am not an alcoholic... The actual real life timeframe for these occurences is unknown at this time. Sometimes it happens more than once in a day and during other periods it would be more like for hell to freeze over than anything actuallly getting done. Currently we are in a time frame where it would seem that there would be more of a chance of Dragon getting a girlfriend as far fetched as that might be than there would be of anything actually happening here. -YourAimSucks -Reaper o'Blood -{pDs} Bloodhands

It was about 2.63 seconds. v = gt v = (9.8 m/s) * (2.63 s) v = 25.8 m/s, Velocity at the time just before impact. 82 feet per second or about 56 mph. ---- h = (1/2) * g * (t^2) h = 33.9 m, height of bridge ---- Assume guy weighed 190 lbs. = 86.16 kg F = m *((Dv)/(Dt)), which is the change in velocity over the time required to change it, equals the force of impact. Which means, he falls, reaches 56 mph and then he stops. He goes from 56 mph to 0 mph, or a change of 56 mph. Let's say he stops in one-tenth of a second, or .1 sec. And, a conversion factor of .0455 to convert the answer to something understandable taken from this website HERE.F = (190 lbs.) * ((56 mph)/(.1s)) * (.0455) = 4841.2 lbs. ---- My friend lost his spleen when, while drunk, tried to jump a curb with his bike. He ended up misjudging it and smacked the tire against the curb, which turned the handlebars and then he smacked the handlebars. He may have been going like five miles an hour. This guy probably had massive internal injuries. And, those of you who are currently in school, please check my figures. I read ALL your private messages.

lol i havnt seen those figures since junior year of high school but yeah they look about right. And either way he is fucked. And i didnt see any slowing due to the cord but its grainy therefore i could be mistaken.

ya its intro level mechanics but its perfect for this type of analysis Code:<a href="http://www.sloganizer.net/en/" target="_blank" title="Sloganizer - the slogan generator"><img src="http://www.sloganizer.net/en/image,Sloganizer,white,black.png" border="0" alt="generated by sloganizer.net" title="This slogan was generated by sloganizer.net"/></a>

Fail.
He was saying that wind resistance is Not a key factor due to the time of the fall. And what do you mean with a mass this big? The guy wieghed 190-... He was probly around 5'9" and the human body is fairly dense, wind resistance isnt a very big issue. And as for a breeze, if there was on it was very slight, look at thier shirts and no moving dust in the desert below.
