usually colleges teach you the theory and a strong foundation where as high school teaches u a very weak foundation and random information...... i just think by taking the classes now he is wasting his time. college should teach him the same stuff in a faster manner and usually by more experienced instructors..... aye that's a very valid point i guess... one thing i would say though is that games developer is a hugely broad term, which encompasses a huge range of different skills and areas. it's probably the only industry where you'll see former military researchers co-existing with artists for example... A course like Dragon mentions could potentially help give a bit more scope for specialising in the industry, and help inform choices better when the time comes to specialise in college... and perhaps, depending on the options available to him, eliminate the need to do a broad encompassing course to begin with at college level... yeah, i'm a cranky 'oul fucker. deal with it.

just found out if i want to be in the art/design part of game design, one of the minimum requirements to get into digipen is to give them samples of 10-20 pieces from my portfolio. i dont have a portfolio, so if i wanted to do the art/design part, i will need to take this class. i'm assuming this is the same with other colleges that have game design programs.
