Okie, So I changed the boot order. and I have a new harddrive. Now after the partitioning step of the windows installation it restarts and goes to a prompt. It just sits there, can't type anything or any junk. So yah. Stumped again. Puppy Linux will run if your hardware is fine. If you have problems, at the boot prompt type: puppy acpi=off You will need to download the .iso file and then burn the .iso file as a .iso image onto a cd. The page below has a link to the download site and to a free program that does nothing but burn .iso files. You can't go wrong. Puppy Linux LinkYou should be more like Cantrip. So I have yet to try the linux os yet since I havnt had a chance to get to a machine with a burner. But here is how I stand: After the CD boots off the CD it tries to restart. Where (with boot order trying HD first) All i get is a blinking prompt. Swapped out Ram: Same Result. Swapped out HD: Same Result. Changed IDE Cables: Same Result. Tried Different XP pro CD: Same Result. Not The Face wrote:nate burn in hell asswipe Lead Salad wrote:And he promises to beat up any suspicious negroes and their children as well. maybe the motherboard. or PSU but that's less likely I think. how far into booting does it get? I assume it posts, but does the OS actually load? Do you have any PCI cards in the system? (if so pull 'em out!). Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Okay, get yourself that burner access you said you had in an earlier post. If you run that live CD, and your system runs, you know it's not a hardware problem. You don't have to install the disk; the OS loads totally into RAM and runs from there. All you need is a CD drive connected to the system. And you don't even need that if you load the image onto a flash drive and run it off the flash drive. Can you get into your BIOS? (Hold down F1 when you hit the power button.) You should be more like Cantrip. Twitchy: "I pulled a Cantrip . . ." GivePeaceAChance: "If the Tempest had nipples, I'd pinch that shit."
