I have been dove hunting as well, forgot about that. Bagged one after about 9 or 10 tries on different birds passing (first time hunting) and my buddy had a dog that would bring them home, and you let him bite the head off as the treat. It was ok, but the experience of being out with buddies and shooting shotguns was fun. As for the barely above freezing cold beer in TX heat, nothing else like it! Like nectar of the gods. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Me and my friends went into up state NY 2 summers ago.. We had just read the book into the wild and wanted to try something like that.. I had a 12 gauge, and my friend brought his little 22.. Needless to say it didn't go well considering the only gun experience we had before that was hunters safety. But that was the only time I have hunted. Only killed 3 geese in the 4 week time that we were there. Speaking of which. We are already planning a train hopping adventure for after we are out of college. Only 6 more years of waiting :/

Cecil-san and I hunt. Mostly with our Dad because he has more guns then us.
We hunt doves, pheasent, duck, rabbit. We hunt rabbit as we dove hunt because if its a bad dove day..you usually flush several rabbits...and those suckers are always in season in Oklahoma. We hunt with a Brittany, named Algernon. I also have a beagle...he needs to be trained though...I havent found anybody with a good hunting hound to help him learn yet though...
We have alot of fun just shooting clay pigeons though....
I dont hunt deer because I dont like to stand in a tree forever,, then have to drag a 250 lb carcass back to the truck to be cleaned.
We also have this really fun .17 calibur rifle, scoped for 100 yrds.....great for squirrel removal and challenging!

Hunting from a deer blind sucks period because there is no skill involved. Tracking is the most fun. You're right about dragging the heavy carcass afterwards - it sucks (especially elk - need to quarter it). If anyone wants to go hunting in Central Montana, drop me a pm and I will hook you up - or if you just want to get fucked up on a camping trip, that will work as well. I hunt deer in West Virginia got a Marlin 336w however my dad just went and got himself a kimber 8400 montana in 300WSM "Its got stuff in it"
