Cantrip, you make a good case, but that's if you don't factor in exactly how much other countries owe us. Mexico alone owes us about 1.5 trillion dollars, along with other major debtors such as Germany, Japan (which covers about 3 trillion and counting way faster than our debt), and Afghanistan. The truth is, if we started calling in our debt then we would pretty much wreck the world economy and all governments would be fucked. So for now, 10 trillion doesn't seem like such a bad number. Now, let's run along with this assumption; what do you do when an entire economy is gone to shit, but they're also a world power? You turn to your economic advisors. They're Harvard trained, they know something. And what do they say? Provide a *very* short term, *very* risky "STIMULUS PACKAGE" to every man woman and child who made US money last year.
Do you know what Stimulus means? Before you browse through your porn dictionary, let me just tell you now. A stimulus is anything that incites a response or action.
What do have that needs response or action? THE AMERICAN FUCKING ECONOMY. So we're given this money to put into the consumer sector. TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY. In the hopes that this will HALT the STAGNATION and INFLATION (But you already knew that was called stagflation, didn't you smarty?)
SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING SPENDING IT ON WEED? Any dumbshit who wastes his "BE A CITIZEN AND HELP THE GODDAMN ECONOMY, LOOK, HERE'S A FREE HANDOUT WITH WHICH TO HELP YOU LAZY FUCKING BASTARD" money in such a cumbucket way has ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to EVER complain about the president, the government, the fucking rising prices IN EVERY SECTOR, *EVER* AGAIN.

So for now, 10 trillion doesn't seem like such a bad number. except those debts are denominated in USD. as our currency crashes the money owed to us effectively decreases. the same is true of our debts, except that that's exactly what we don't want to happen to our debt because then no one wants to keep loaning us money. USD is fast on its way to losing its place as the global currency, and when that happens our problems will only be compounded. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Yep... The US economy is really screwed unless the government steps up and does something. And, giving us a crappy Stimulus isn't going to help, like all of you have said... I fear that we're going to have another major depression on our hands unless the government actually takes a step toward fixing it, but I really don't see that happening. And on top of that, EVERYTHING's getting more expensive. Soon, we won't be able to buy much with what we make at the moment... the economy is so screwed.
