What do you feel is a proper reason for wanting to be an admin, then? Love of the kick/ban? Popular people just think he's cool? Wants more poW3rz? I think wanting to make the servers a better place is about the best reason you can find, and while "there aren't enough admins on" may be a common/lame excuse, the ultimate goal being expressed there IS improving the experience. I wouldn't say someone completely makes the case for being admin by offering up that reason, but the motive behind it is noble, and certainly shouldn't diminish the person's qualifications in any way, I shouldn't think...
I like triplebams application: TripleBam wrote:I'd like to apply for admin over our tempest servers. On top of keeping a level head and a low tolerance for inappropriate behavior, I believe I have something going for me that other applicants might not.
My sleep pattern.
As you can see, I'm writing this at about 5:20 AM, PST. Not an hour ago, I got a message from a pDs member requesting admin. Numerous others have also asked if I had admin priveleges, requesting my help. Alas, I was unable to help them, and searched for another admin to forward the request to. Sometimes I can find one, sometimes I can't.
I am routinely ( usually ) awake during this time. My usual bedtime is anywhere from 3:30AM to 6:30AM.
I am very active on the servers, logging at least a few hours a day in-game and launching server fills independent of any steam-group events.
I hereby recant anything that may have been said in my signature in the past regarding my ability to carry out the duties assigned to a server admin.
Thank you for your consideration! The first thing he says is what would make him a good admin (noted in the first paragraph). then he explains what makes him different from everyone else (sleeping pattern) and why he would be especially good to be an admin. I'll admit that the "there isn't enough admins" excuse is a main reason someone might want admin, but that's no excuse for not posting more, and distinguishing themselves to the admin team. Not everyone can be admin and you have to stand out. Cantrip wrote:When I die, I want to be reincarnated as a woman's jogging bra.

I only said it in the way of if I had my own clan, having people put on their app for becoming a server admin "no admins online" is an extremely piss poor reason. Before I started here in the last clan I was in 99% of the people asking for admin had the same exact reasons.... and at the top of each and every single one is "there is no admin online so id like....". Sorry but seriously you have to do better then that. Theres a report forum.... its almost never used. People fail to realize that server adminning is more then enforcing rules within the server. Regardless if people have powers or not they should always enforce the rules of their servers. If people take up the effort on their own showing themselfs they are capable of admin duties without having the powers is more then satisfactory. "I want" and not doing the work before hand just shows you how much effort they are willing to put forth. Just cause an asshole decides to ruin the game and break the rules doesn't mean that an admin must be there, it doesn't matter if they get banned on the spot or later on, they are getting banned and they can never return. Eventually the retards get the banhammer. Posting in the abuse / report forums and having an admin ban them at a later time is just as good. In the end this isn't my clan but im sure as hell happy to be here and a part of it. It doesn't matter what I feel about something, Im bound to all rules just like everyone else is. P.S. My old clan are a bunch of assholes..... I leave on a good note but when I come back a year later and say "hi" I get banned for no reason. Yeah they are fuckwads and I still hate them to this day. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

Rest assured, my next request will be less application, more resume! I think I assumed quite a bit were givens, such as "wanting to better the community", and thinking people knew I held later hours. I probably could have mentioned my lack of Community tools to contact other admins as that was a unique reason, but I didn't feel like bogging everyone down with a book. I'll try to be more specific next time, but remain succinct. On the plus side, having extra time will let me assess where my biases are and when I *shouldn't* wear the banhat. Is there anything to do besides 'status' & posts with a demo? I didn't even know how to do demos until Sunday, expecting to learn the tricks of the trade as an "orientation" to adminhood. But anything I can do now to enable our existing admins, I'll certainly do...

Honestly you could start with getting your community tab fixed. Its nothing personal or anything but as of right now I don't want you becoming an admin just for that fact. The only time you are able to admin is while only you are playing. If your not ingame then theres no other way for someone to get in contact with you. Your only effective when your ingame and thats it. You must be reachable via steam friends when your not ingame, but since you can't be contacted at all then that cancels out your purpose. Contact steam and have them haul ass, bitch as much as you want since your a paying customer and you have the right for this issue to be resolved within a reasonable amount of time. Don't just post on the forums since majority of those people I bet don't even work for steam officially. Contact them directly be it phone or e-mail. ahhhh_crap wrote:no, splinter has ethics and whut has emotions

I have a promotional account, hence why I have free games added on to it periodically. And I'm not talking the little puzzle games. Half-Life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2, TF2, all id's and Valve's older classics, X3, Longest Journey, etc. The first time I opened a ticket they didn't know what the issue was. The second time they identified it as a special subscription type that simply wasn't given Community tools, then fell off the radar - even after opening the ticket back up to ask again, no response. If the outcome of my next request comes down to that.. don't discount me for that alone. If I have to buy TF2 and put it on my normal account in order to be an admin, I'll do so. But I'm honestly not going to do that until then since it would mean - besides paying for a game I already legitimately have - all my stats would be reset, unlocks, relocked, and everything I have been able to configure in the Community, lost. Something somewhat more topical as it relates to general administrating... Do you show up as "signed in" to Steam whenever you're logged into it? I ask simply because I'm always logged into it - 24/7. Someone asking for help while I'm at work won't do anyone any good.

Steam Friends (where people show up on a buddy list like in many IM applications and how people communicate via Steam) is separate from being signed onto a Steam account. Just like IM applications, there are different statuses such as away, busy, snooze (idle), and offline. Also, unlike your steam account which uses your own unique log-in name, Steam Friends uses a name you set yourself and can change (like your in-game name).
