Nations have interferred with conflicts outside their direct concern usually to make it their concern.  To my knowledge the US has never intervened in a country to simply add it to their "empire."  Germany, Japan, South Korea, Bosnia, all of these resulted in a stable independent government under the control of its own people.  Iraq is a work in progress, but I highly doubt we'll see Iraqis voting in US elections and adding a 51st star to our flag anytime soon.

Lol, no mention of Vietnam? What about Nicaragua and Iran? What about Afghanistan? The United States' interference in other nation's affairs goes deeper than overt war. But if that's all you're concerned about, what about Mexico? What about Panama and the whole Monroe Doctrine and period of Jingoism?

I agree with your overall idea but just to nitpick, there's a very small chance we'll ever go to war with any of these nations anytime soon. I can't believe you're still this skeptical over involvement in Darfur. There is absolutely no difference between the atrocities commited by Sudan and Nazi Germany.
