I dunno... this layout kinda makes sense to me... Let's try and use it for a week and then we'll see what needs fixing.

I had initially thought to go with multiple subforums like The Spaniard has said, but I ultimately agree with Rik's point at how low subforums get visibility, and in trying to increase the overall visibility of gaming besides TF2 and HL2DM, breaking them out into separate main forums made sense. It seems like recently there has been more talk about politics than games.. Although the reason for that is obvious. Anyways.. I think we should have a science and technology forum. That way we have a place to fap over new hardware and maybe we could have some more discussions about physics n stuf rite?

Yeah, I'm beginning to agree with Sharpton. I think the gaming and advice forums should be below the discussion boards. Like: Discussions Advice Gaming In that order. Servers stay on top.

I think the two gaming sections should be clustered together, though I think the advice sections could go below the discussion boards. So: Gaming Servers Gaming Community Discussion Boards Advice HolyJaw wrote:In the end, everything Endyss said.

It makes more sense to me to have the more popular forums on the top and the less popular ones on the bottom. The gaming ones aren't very popular, where as the discussion boards are... especially Nyquil (most popular board) and the politics forum. However, your point about keeping gaming together makes sense. So, in that regard I think it should be one forum for gaming and then sub forums for the various discussion levels. That way the section shrinks and provides visibility. Right now this is very cluttered and hard to navigate. But I'm interested in more opinions.

I also think the tournament forum should be sub forum'd in either gaming or pds because it's basically dead. Shit, we should just archive that.

The two things I'd say are First regarding the gaming forums/subforums, if we threw all the gaming community stuff into one forum with subforums, it wouldn't really make any visibility change from the former Game Slop. Also, since subforums don't update the main list when someone posts to them, they tend to languish and not serve much purpose (e.g. MMO Forum). Part of breaking Game Slop into PC Gaming and Console Gaming was to raise the visibility and importance, but I dont really see how having two is cluttered and one is fine. Lastly, looking at number of posts as a measure of popularity, obviously Nyquil Bar (21,581 posts) destroys all, but the combined gaming forums (4,365 posts) is comparable in popularity to others like The Tempest (8,085), Juice Bar (3,559) and Giant Douche (2,373). If we drop Advice to below Discussion, the new layout would push the Nyquil Bar down for forums (PC Gaming, Console Gaming, PDS, Tournament), which honestly doesn't seem insane to me. I do think moving Advice down would be smart, though. As to the tournament forum, we could relocate it into the Hosted Gaming Servers category, but making it a subforum of something wouldn't make sense since it's not exclusively a TF2 or HL2DM tournament forum. I already sub-categoried the Tournament Suggestions forum into the main tournament forum, and ya I'd agree with ditching it, but it's funny you should mention that it's dead, since people have been posting in it all week in a "HAX vs. PDS" thread. A thread that belongs in the pDs forum... where I just moved it to... because I did that and stuff... and things. And then I put the tourney forum in the archive. If someone ever wants to start it up again we'll bring it back.
