The problem is worse if you play a class that doesn't get "bonus points" like sniper, spy or engineer. If you're a lowly soldier, you have to kill 50 people for every measly random headshot, nade, mad pyro, group of 10 sentries and so forth. On 2fort, where you can play for 3 hours and not have any flag caps, it's just depressing.
If there were a way to get big point losses and big point gains, I would be for it. I wouldn't mind losing points if there was the hope of ever regaining them.
However I worry that removing the cap will continue to be one-sided, so that low point players can easily get more points, but high point players will end up having to kill 1000 people for every time they're killed.

Why do I rarely play 2fort anymore? CP and PL maps are where the points are. I am a point whore. Sue me.

Stop me if I am wrong but isn't that what we are after? More people playing longer, more often.
Perhaps, but it must be a downer for new clan-mates or regulars to know that they are basically never going to get into the top 30 unless other players just stop playing and time out. Lovely people like titanium phoenix....she shall never feel the warm glow of being among the tempest elite unless she quits her job, doesn't go to school, and plays 10 hours a day. *sniffle* (tiny violin playing)

I LOL'd something fierce at this and now my coworkers are giving me weird glances. I knew coming on here at work was a bad idea. xD
Not that I don't love the idea of ditching school and my job to be a full-time TF2 player, I do see your point. Then again, I'm not too picky about my rank. I love TF2 because it's a team based game and when I'm helping my clan/teammates is when I'm the happiest. (Or when I'm backstabbing Razor. That's awesome too.) I'm sure other players would agree.
Though, slightly off topic, this does explain why, every now and then, when a newcomer to the server kills me I see that they get 50 points for it... This whole thread correlates to that, am I right? (I'm kind of new to the ins-and-outs of the HLstats world. That's what I get for coming to the TF2 gaming community from the PS3.)
I'll abstain from the vote as of now since playing with you guys is what I love about these servers, not necessarily my stats. :D wrote:{pDs} TitaniumPhoenix: We're Mexican. The people in the upper-echelon right now had to start at the bottom too. The top 2 (I can't vouch for anyone else on the list) players on tempest didn't really start playing at tempest until around January-February, so if you really want to base your life on rankings in tempest servers, just be patient and play regularly over a period of time... or if you want a short-cut to the top.... I know a certain Duck who's always looking for a medic...lol :D McCheese wrote:I've always said all women are 2 drinks away from full on lesbian action Lead Salad wrote:I never figured whut for a fairy..wait, yes, yes I did. hey people are passing me :O Time played can be misleading. I have an additional like 4-5 days played because i let people play on my steam. Im all for resetting. I could care less about my rank really and itd give incentive maybe? Besides, i'd never get back to the top either way as i dont really play much anymore. MORE INCENTIVE! Or rank it by kills! Then I might do okay.

This may sound kinda complicated, but what about doing it kinda like a fantasy sports league? If people as so opposed to the current system (which kinda confuses me, but whatever, I die more than pretty much any of you and I lose 50 points from pretty much anyone not in the top 40) how about basing the rankings on stats like kills, kpd, type of kills (melee, primary weapon, assists, destructions, etc.) While I'm on the topic, If we're all gonna complain about something, how bout me saying I'm mad because the stats don't show destructions in the stats, even though I get waaaaaaaaay more of them then kills. I think if you ask anyone, there is something that can be complained about, but the fact is that this is a game and the stats, while adding padding to a fragile ego, don't mean anything when you turn the computer off. :D McCheese wrote:I've always said all women are 2 drinks away from full on lesbian action Lead Salad wrote:I never figured whut for a fairy..wait, yes, yes I did. I think its funny no one has mentioned medics yet. Lets say a top 10 player is playing medic, they get killed once by someone who just got ranked and they loose 50 points. They now have to get 10 medic assists to make up the points. What happens when they loose 500 points on one death? I rarely play medic, but at that rate I never would on pub games. Just because it would be lame to loose so many points by trying to be a team player. Its hard enough trying to hold on to points on tempest #2. I can have a 3:1 K:D and still be loosing points out the ass on that server if the right people on the other team kill me. Also I have passed a lot of people that have more time played than me on this server, so I think it reflects a bit more on skill than some people think.

Pyros. They shout and curse. Stabbing wildly. More brawlers than warriors. They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs.

i beleive the points just show who plays capture the flag and who plays capture the point...i mean...goldrush....50 points per point capture and additional 25 points for the rest of the team....tell me its hard capping the first point on goldrush.... and you just made the same amount of points i make on 2fort, landing 12 headshots. points cant rank ppl corectly, but removing the cap would be for everyone, so i dont see what is the problem to it anymore. plus that everyone in the comunity knows who is a good player, and they are not basing their judgement on points.

You do realize a good number of people in the top10 are primary or secondary medics... including myself, ed, frags, sam, saber, i've seen leon play medic... If anything, I would suggest medics get points faster than most classes, especially if they are the type of player that runs away from a fight as soon as an uber runs out. Crazy about points? Be a medic :D. McCheese wrote:I've always said all women are 2 drinks away from full on lesbian action Lead Salad wrote:I never figured whut for a fairy..wait, yes, yes I did.
