My morning drive to work takes me through a school zone. They recently did some road work as part of a trashy McMansion development which apparently extended the school zone. I failed to notice that the school zone had been extended, and like every day I accelerate to the posted limit of 35 mph at the same spot just past this one intersection (a lesson I learned after my LAST ticket, which was even more bullshit than this one). I was up to 30 when a pig came flying out behind me with his lights on. $270 for going 30 fucking miles per hour!!! This is at like 7:30am too, there aren't any fucking kids out yet because their school doesn't start until after 8am!!! There's usually not even very many cars on the road, let alone little fucking kids running in the streets. The sun is barely fucking up, sane people are still sleeping. So as always, the cop was a total cunt. What is the secret to not getting treated like shit by pigs? I'm always polite and friendly, I fucking apologized to the prick even, I didn't make up bullshit excuses, I didn't even bitch at him for making me late to work. Fucker must not of had his donuts yet.

Fight your ticket.  If there's reasonable indication that the school zone extension wasn't properly marked then you can have your ticket dismissed.  If the lights were flashing at all though, they won't care what the specific circumstances were in regards to the people around you.

Fighting tickets is a waste of time. I fought the last one I got, which was total BS. The judge sat there staring at me while I explained what happened and showed him on a map and blah blah blah. Then he said well the cop says you were speeding so buh-bye, and that was that. To appeal that shit I had to pay even more money, so I said fuck it I'm not missing any more work they can get their money out of me.

Seems all pretty reasonable to me. You sped in a school zone and were caught. Even if there are no kids out or the sign had been moved, it is what it is. Next time, make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Wow.  You break the law and get busted for it and it is the cop's fault?  I really do not understand this massive chip you have on your shoulder about police, but I think you could stand to benefit from some professional counseling.

Does it suck to get a ticket, of course it does.  The best way to avoid them is to not violate traffic laws.  Sorry for your cruddy start for a day.

This is pretty true. I see it on TV all the time. You'll be famous and famous people get out of tickets all the time.

Um, it was an unsigned extension of a school zone, and a hefty fine for barely breaking the law. That's the chip. I've got the chip, and it didn't even happen to me.

I guess my point is that it's not the cop's job to put your case on trial there.  Their job is to enforce the law.  If you don't like the ticket you got, go to court; that's their job.  Take pictures of the area you got a ticket in and show them reasons it was not a fair ticket.  Don't tell them it was because no one else was around though, that's not a valid reason.

Was this the same cop?  That's a pretty unfair generalization if it isn't.

Yeah I agree, cops decide whether they feel like writing you a ticket and get to decide whether the ticket is justified. In this case it may very well be justified because they finished a bunch of work there recently and apparently extended the school zone. My point was that the judge who handles tickets in my town is a lazy prick and it's a waste of time to argue in front of him, I'd have to take off from work and after my last experience it's clear to me that there's no justice in his court. So fuck it, I'm out $270 for going 10mph over the limit on an empty road. That's life.

And no, it was not this same cop, although I wouldn't have any doubt if this cop has done things of that sort. I've had friends who were cops so no I don't hate them all, but in my experience they generally can and do get away with all sorts of shady stuff. I'm always on my best behavior around them and besides my cop friend, and the cop who didn't write me a ticket even though he should have, they've always been jackasses. Maybe I just attract their attention somehow, or have really bad luck, but I can't even jaywalk without a pig chewing me out (yes, I have been screamed at by a cop for jaywalking because 4 feet from the curb I cut out of a crosswalk on an empty street to walk diagonal towards the sidewalk, at least the shithead didn't write me a ticket 'eh?). So put it all together and I think I have enough evidence to state that generally cops are assholes.

I can only speak for the police in Canada, but it seems their job is to get a certain quota of tickets. Secondary function is to enforce law. I'm guessing the cop knew that was a 'money spot' for ticketing people, due to the new construction or whatever, and I bet he waited there just to catch someone being careless.

There's these ex-cop ticket fighters you can enlist. Their advice is probably the best you can find.

I lol'd. I think Dick's point is that cops have a lot of power and they sometimes don't use it to enforce the law. I don't really trust the police 100% and I'm not even black.LOL

That is a pretty good reason.  I imagine if I had seen what you have seen, I would see differently.  Maybe I could have asked in a nicer manner.  I have known some cops, a former chief of police of San Antonio is a friend of mine.  I have a friend in the FBI.  All good people that genuinely want to make the world a better place and do the right thing no matter what.

Yes, there are bad cops out there, but there are good ones too.

I am going to be a cop, thanks Dick.

P.S. On u asking about flirting with cops, I went out on a ride and busted a bunch of transexual hookers, and they like to hit on the cops to get under their skin or to try to lessen the ticket they get.
