I think I've figured out the formula for giant douche / turd sandwich topic OP: Opinion or news item! General public: RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE TROLL Endyss: Very well thought out but highly unappealing wall of text DCMH: Equally well thought out and unappealing wall of text Then the walls of text continue with the occasional troll or outside opinion until one party grows tired and the thread dies.

I honestly can't see how a President can win the NPP. Here is my breakdown. 1st No matter what choice a Pres makes on any minor or major issue someone gets the shaft. Example: Stay in Afghanistan more troops die. Pull out of Afghanistan many more Afghanis die. 2nd Most decsions don't come down to the just 1 man. We live in our so called Demo-crazy for just that reason other wise we would be the United Dick-tatorship of America. So with that in mind any positive effects can't be singly placed upon the guy sitting in the high seat just because his minions sold more cookies than the other guys. He probably didn't even know what kinda cookies where being sold. I believe in these awards but like most systems of public recognition its seem to be diluted by the popularity vote on too many occasions. My recent headline favorite was " Obama to give out his first medal of Honor." Given (posthumously) to some guy that didnt even make it into the headline cause there was no room for it since the sentence already contained Obama. It was that anonymous soilders first and last Medal of Honor too. Don't get me wrong I dont hate the current Pres. I'm just completely meh...maybe if he hadn't been handed a burning house he could have done great things, but right now he has won the Prize for what? Damage Control?

The prize is bullshit. Al gore won it for fuck's sake. The people that run it and care about it are bullshit munchers living in a bullshit fantasy world of idolatry, money-worship, and "aww, gee whiz, maybe we really can fix the whole world!" All the reasons they gave for Obama deserving the prize are bullshit. Efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples? Give him the fucking prize when he's shaking hands with every middle eastern, african, asian, european, and south american leader as the U.S. Military starts packing its bags and emptying out the myriad of military bases we have speckling the world. How about Obama gets the prize when he cuts the fascist state of Israel off the American teat? It's all bullshit to cover up the real reason he got the prize: He's the first fucking president who isn't an old white man. But they can't say that because it'll piss off whitey and all the second-life dwellers who think MLK fixed racism once and for all in the 60's. I thought Obama deserved Time's man of the year. Seriously, Barack Hussein Obama became president of this country and he's black, a democrat, and has the most ridiculously terrorist-like name. He overcame all the bullshit of you're a communist, you're a muslim, you're a nigger, and he countered it with perfectly rational and eloquent speaking. Barack Obama is like the star of Revenge of the Nerds V only in real life. I thought it was fucking hilarious how transparent people were when they claimed Obama had done 'nothing' to deserve Man of the Year. Obama definitely deserved man of the year. The Nobel Peace Prize is a little more epic and stringent, even though I think it's a bullshit organization I don't think Obama deserved the prize, especially considering his competition. But don't act like he had done nothing to deserve it, unless you admit you spend more time jacking off under a rock than paying attention to the real world.

All of these nations are stakeholders to America. Is this the first step in gaining peace? Absolutely. Trying is something that a lot of people don't even attempt because of the sheer nature of what it requires someone to do, especially when its between whole countries that see eye-to-eye in very little things. This is however, about the award that was given. It might be unfair, especially on my part, to say it's a fluke and that he's done "nothing", but I just feel it's so premature that it's absurd. I have never once gotten an honor role certificate before I had the grades to prove I was an A student, even if I made A's for years in a row. Obama has done a lot to change the international climate, but these things have more to do with him NOT being our now ex-president. I feel this award was given as a act of positive reinforcement to inspire future change than an award for results of the past. What bothers me is that it leaves a huge void to be filled with unknown factors, mainly consisting of yet-to-be-determined future outcomes of the things he's getting awarded for now. {pDs} Lead Salad: bike why did you change your name Jessica343: so I can get heals {pDs} Lead Salad: oh damn good idea {pDs} Lead Salad has changed their name to {pDs} Lead Salad (is a girl) Jessica343: hahah

Over the past several years America was run by someone most of the world viewed as a very dangerous and scary person who won an election under questionable circumstances. By 2004 he had proven himself to be competent at very little other than war mongering, yet his term as President was not ended by election. America had become a nation which described established international norms prohibiting prisoner abuse as "quaint". Torture programs, secret prisons, etc. all became official US policy. The rest of the world saw climate change as an existential threat to civilization, the US denied it existed. Basically, we had become the bad guys. Since being elected Obama ended the torture programs, shut down the secret prison camps, began the ending of the US occupation of Iraq, began the ending of the US embargo of Cuba, changed US policy towards climate change, re-deployed the European missile shield so that it is designed to better protect from an Iranian missile AND no longer provokes the Russians, gave a speech in Cairo that made much of the Muslim world reconsider the threat posed by America, played a major role in preventing the collapse of the global economy, changed US policy in Pakistan and Afghanistan, restarted diplomacy with Iran and North Korea, etc. Basically, Obama made us the good guys again. Quaint is the term I'd use to describe the way "global warming" has now become just "climate change." However, I think the more likely reason for the change was to keep envirosocialists from looking like idiots in case the damn carbon emissions didn't begin killing us as fast as An Inconvenient Truth made it sound. And by that definition, it doesn't matter whether it's global WARMING or global COOLING (as was the panic back in the 1970s); as long as the earth's climate does anything but sit perfectly still, the green movement is right! Hmm... what's another way to describe a belief that can't be proven or disproven...? Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote:Basically, Obama made us the good guys again. It used to be that "climate change" was the watered down term the oil company PR fronts pushed, it sounds more neutral and less threatening. I'm not sure why it's recently supplanted global warming as the prevalent term, probably because people got sick of retards arguing that since it happens to be cold someplace sometimes where it's normally hot then global warming is actually a global conspiracy to sap their vital fluids. And really, "global cooling"?! I really hope you are being disingenuous with this as well. It was fringe science in the 1970's that the media hyped up for awhile. There was never a scientific consensus, not to mention that the entire scientific discipline of climatology was in it's infancy then. endyss wrote: Correction: He's promised to make us the good guys again. Heh...It is funny how just the other day I was watching a clip about all the things obama promised to do, and hasn't done yet. He can't even get a health care bill out with the majority of the house being his own party (of course, its no surprise, when have the democrats ever been able to do anything). He has yet to shut down the prisons, sorry but "On the way there" doesn't deserve you a NPP. However, Al Gore made a slide show of other peoples information, and didn't give credit to anyone, and acted like he made all the information himself, and won the prize. So it doesn't really mean much. He will prolly just throw the 1mil away on something useless, maybe he will give it to a bank firm that was responsible for our economic situation. I support the War in Afghanistan, but how can you win a "Peace" when you are the Leader of a Country that is in the two biggest wars going on in the world currently? That is just illogical, and doesn't even make sense. Is it no longer about peace? Or is it just about sucking up to the french? I mean...who cares if we look good to them. Yeah, Obama has yet to accomplish all of his goals. Fortunately for him he still has several more years to get them done. Health care reform is being held up less by the House than it is by the Senate. It's kind of hard to blame Obama directly for there not being a health care reform bill the Democratic party does not march lockstep about anything and the insurance industry is not yet happy. Obama has actually shut down the network of secret prisons, the last of the undocumented prisoners were transferred out months ago. Re: Al Gore, wtf are you talking about? Dick's debate posts invariably consist of the same sort of outrage and umbrage that so totally typifies the ideas and thought processes of the hard left, a group that--as with any extreme--is prone to highly binary thought and a distinct inability to really understand the stances of their opponents. Words-in-mouth phrases like "Ok, so you're basically saying x" carry little more than the explicit purpose of phrasing an opponents ideas in different language, an effective trolling technique, but a tragically ineffective method of debate. Straight up denials of understanding "wtf are you talking about" clumsily sidestep a point that could be otherwise fought on one's feet. It'd be a rare sight to see a post that didn't ask "Wait, do you actually believe this?" so as to try to change the character of the opponent to someone who, regardless of credentials or experience, is clearly insane. Just a little character critique. Perfectly valid in LD rounds, perfectly valid in a debate forum. But as I'm not an active combatant, I only offer this as a pundit's voice. Safety + Peace

I've read every post in this thread. I was asking what you were talking about when you said: defiance wrote: Al Gore made a slide show of other peoples information, and didn't give credit to anyone, and acted like he made all the information himself, and won the prize.
I taken issue with Al Gore over many things but it's inaccurate to say he didn't give anyone credit for the content of his climate change presentation or for winning the Nobel. It was awarded jointly to the IPCC and Al Gore. I remember watching the lecture he gave when he accepted it and distinctly remember him thanking the scientists he shared the award with. As far as the info in his slide show, all of it is credited to the sources. It's fucking science man, that's how it works! Did you even watch an Inconvenient Truth? If so, what gave you the idea that Al Gore was claiming to be some kind of super-scientist who did all of that research on his own? I don't understand why people are critical of Al Gore winning, along with the IPCC he was a major catalyst for getting the world to come together and start taking global warming seriously. defiance wrote: French. Europe had the biggest problem with us about what? So did the French? Are the French not European? Re: Trading with Iraq, this really hurts my brain. There were many companies trading with Iraq before the US attack. Some were from France and Germany, along with many other countries (America included!). So who were France and Germany to say we were doing something wrong? They were two of our major allies. They asked that we don't attack until the UN inspectors had finished searching for WMD. They pointed out that the evidence of WMD was lacking. They warned that the occupation and reconstruction of Iraq would be incredibly difficult. They were right about everything. France and Germany were right, America was wrong. You think Chirac or Schroeder really gave a shit about a few random companies trading with Iraq? Bush offered them massive corporate welfare if they signed up, the only way French or German business could get in on "reconstruction" or post-invasion oil contracts was to support the American timetable. Not even the Russians took the offer and they had the most money to lose. This argument that business interests motivated French and German opposition to the US attacking Iraq is painfully stupid.
