Ugh i know i might catch shit for this but Rik has made it clear players have no say what he puts on his server , Also stated it was not in fact a Pds Clan server I like playing there its fun but dont call it a clan server if we have no say in what you put in Issues that bother me are the pvp been turned off , which prevents a lot of personal games and modes we could make up our selfs like Castle wars (read my First post when i ASKED you guys and Rik if WE as a CLAN could get a server i mentioned castle wars and survival challenges ) Sparing , Gladiator combat ..stuff like that ..FUN things for when we are bored or want to do something special Creeper land damage is turned off , this one i can understand too but they are a part of this game and should have this feature on .. its part of the fun and you know the whole SURVIVAL thing Is that little damage that big of a bother to you guys?.. Now rik has some point in saying alot of the open mutiplayer servers have this turned off. But we are not an open server we dont have tons of people in and out ..most i EVER seen is 3-4 and the rest are a rare sight..So a creeper blows up ...FIX it ..its not hard Lava dont start fires , This one is meh ... just dont play with lava maybe? I wouldn't give a shit about these if we Voted for them but rik made it clear it wont happen I want a challenging game to play with my clan mates. I want freedom to do what ever we want and what comes to mind at the time ... If i wanted to burn my house down with lava, spar with porgon and kill the furry ..or gather up creepers and quick mine a hole we should at least have a say in it? it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. If we could have more than one server then we would have more flexibility. But as it is we only have one and that one has to be compatible with the most people for a long period of time. I'm starting to save up for a new server which will give us a lot more resources and should allow for multiple MC servers, at which time we can explore more game modes and more destructive settings on servers we reset on some regular basis.

there's alot of issue with the server as it is - part of it - and I know rik is going to bring it up - is that we didn't notice alot of the problems untill recently. That said - alot of the problems are long term problems, not short term ones. I.e. castle wars take time to set up. and creeper damage, while annoying - is actually a surprisingly core piece of survival mode. I mean if you want to make this creative - then make it creative, but - the reason why creepers exist in the first place is to force maintenance and encourage to build around them. without them, there's absolutely no reason to build a fence around your land or try to find a way to elude creepers entirely. To put this into context - consider the fact that creepers are the ONLY agressive mob in sunlight, consider also now that they are also the only mob ( sans Ghasts, who only exist in the nether ) that can do damage to property, ask yourself why? The answer is it's one of the few, FEW in game challenges - to deal with creepers. Without that, what are you really left with? building. and after that? more building. Lava and fire - honestly isn't a huge deal and can be seen more as a anti-griefing measure then anything else. I'm not going to sit here and demand rik do anything in particular with his sever, but I do wish he would find focus in it. Either make it survival, and take off the easymode plugs. or make it creative, so we can create. or - find something else to do with the server but do something with it instead of trying to half-ass doing everything and making it so there's no real reason to play at all. Rik makes good points About long term land damage , but i still say with so FEW of us here cant that maintience be part of the game.. I fixed all the creeper holes i caused cant people just be expected to do the same? yea if you are all slackers and no one will do it fine i will submit myself to be the creeper land fixer from now on fair? Btw Castle wars dont take time , but part of the game is the creativeness to use creepers to break into the castle (you are not allowed to destroy blocks when on offense , but creepers ARE allowed) thinking outside the box should be rewarded ..If i know the only way into the castle is that narrow hallway with him shooting arrows down it is the only way in .You cant and wont ever win Btw yes creepers are no longer scary when they dont destroy stuff , many times a creeper has caught me in the doorway to my tower and left a hole a skel or zombie wanted to try and squeeze in ..it was a tense "OMG GTFO" swinging a sword wildly moment that in the end was fun survival moment ....i have had a few where creeper damage to the ground put me in more danger then the 3 little heart damage it inflicts it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. Btw ..adding other minecraft servers?...Why we barely have any players in the one we have? Splitting up the few we have would be a waste of resources for your computer Sure a minecraft Planet mod server would be so awsome but still how many would play there ? it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek. without them, there's absolutely no reason to build a fence around your land or try to find a way to elude creepers entirely.
There's a need to build around all monsters. You shouldn't want spiders climbing your walls anymore than you want creepers standing outside them. You shouldn't want to be slapped in the face by a zombie or poked in the eye by an arrow the second you leave your front door. And even if you think monster damage is minimal, you shouldn't want a creeper to explode in your face when you walk outside, either. A single type of defense can protect against all monster threats. Point of fact... even with terrain damage, I'm more afraid of spiders than creepers. They're also harder to defend against since they can climb and walk over single-block moats. And I really don't want to have to worry about maintenance. I'm going to eventually have creations all over the world--as I imagine many others will--and I don't want to have to regular all my tunnels and towers and bridges and buildings to check for creeper damage caused due to another player setting them off. In short, a person's buildings shouldn't be destroyed directly or indirectly by another player. We have rules/guidelines preventing direct destruction, so why allow indirect? It's a hole in the rules that could be exploited. Quote:To put this into context - consider the fact that creepers are the ONLY agressive mob in sunlight, consider also now that they are also the only mob ( sans Ghasts, who only exist in the nether ) that can do damage to property,
ask yourself why?
The answer is it's one of the few, FEW in game challenges - to deal with creepers. Unless I'm mistaken Creepers were created for Survival Test, which was a game mode of Minecraft Alpha--before there was even multiplayer functionality. So the answer could also simply be: Because it already existed. Quote:Without that, what are you really left with? building. and after that? more building. With it we have, what? Building, more building... then maintenance, maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.... I don't know about you but I'd like to think I can step away from Minecraft for a month or two, come back, and not have to spend the next week repairing things. Quote:I'm not going to sit here and demand rik do anything in particular with his sever, but I do wish he would find focus in it.
Either make it survival, and take off the easymode plugs. or make it creative, so we can create. or - find something else to do with the server but do something with it instead of trying to half-ass doing everything and making it so there's no real reason to play at all. I think it has a pretty defined focus as a midway point between Creation and Survival. There are survival aspects that require us to work for our resources that we then use to create. This makes the creation process more rewarding. Creeper terrain damage is the only notable thing that has changed from Survival and that's to ensure our creations aren't destroyed and that the world remains pleasant looking long-term.

And while people might be nice enough to fix structure damage, would they be so inclined to fix holes in the open world? Fix that tree that was half-blasted? Quote:Btw yes creepers are no longer scary when they dont destroy stuff , many times a creeper has caught me in the doorway to my tower and left a hole a skel or zombie wanted to try and squeeze in ..it was a tense "OMG GTFO" swinging a sword wildly moment that in the end was fun survival moment ....i have had a few where creeper damage to the ground put me in more danger then the 3 little heart damage it inflicts If there were a way to allow structure damage if the structure owner were the same person who pissed off the Creeper, I'd allow it. But what if that happened in your tower with someone else and they didn't fix it? What if they have really bad luck and a line of kamakazi creepers dig their way into your structure? Is that something you'd like to see when you log in? And I had that happen with one of my bridge towers; back-to-back creeper explosions. Given the complexity of my structure design I wouldn't expect someone else to even KNOW how to repair the damage correctly. And if it messes up water/lava flows, it could get ugly fast.

Frostbite wrote:Btw ..adding other minecraft servers?...Why we barely have any players in the one we have? Well, obviously we have different desires as far as server configurations go. You don't like the way the server is now, and I wouldn't like my structures being destroyed by Creepers when I'm taking a break. Personally I'd be in favor of a never-reset server with world protection and a second server that allows normal terrain damage but gets reset periodically. Right now we just have one. And I have to assume people don't want to see their creations reset every couple months, so the long-term integrity of the world needs to be maximized. A second server would give us the flexibility to reset--it'd be better for minigames and non-serious building.

Thanks. Frost and Porgon think the game lacks challenge with Creeper terrain damaging disabled. I don't think it makes much difference challenge-wise and helps protect peoples' structures and terrain from accidental Creeper explosion. That's the short form, lacking details.

Another fun fact... beta SMP has an option to disable monster spawning altogether. So I have trouble accepting arguments that monsters--and creepers in particular--are vital to the creator's vision when the creators, themselves, give the option to disable them all outright in the vanilla settings. Single-player survival also has the option to disable monsters altogether. Logically that suggests that their definition of "survival" is simply the fact the player has health and is able to die. I'm not about to disable monsters altogether, but obviously that was a style of play the creators were quite alright providing for SMP.

It completely lacks any sort of challenge, and only exists as a time dump - not even as a game. If you want to play that sort of thing, by all means - but I don't really see the reason to make it a server - which is by nature meant to be a game shared by multiple people. I really would love to explain the finer points of game theory later, however it's 1 am now - so sleep I think should be first. Peaceful mode. Mhm, no. Peaceful mode is different. You effectively can't die in that mode; if you take damage it's automatically and quickly healed. I haven't tested it but I don't even know if lava can kill you, though I imagine something that extreme could. Quote:It completely lacks any sort of challenge, and only exists as a time dump - not even as a game. If you want to play that sort of thing, by all means - but I don't really see the reason to make it a server - which is by nature meant to be a game shared by multiple people. I think the reasons for making it a server are pretty obvious; to build cooperatively with other people and allow other people to explore and experience your creations, as you explore and experience theirs. That is true especially for Creation mode which, lacking any win/lose conditions and rules, really isn't a "game". It's purely a sandbox that gives others' the freedom to make rules and create games of their own. The server is intended primarily to be like Garry's Mod, or like sitting down and playing with Legos with you friends. It's about building and enjoying something as a community. The Survival aspects are included to add some challenge in acquiring resources, so to make finishing that creation feel like a bigger accomplishment than just spam-placing blocks on the fly. Also, having to fend off monsters and explore the world offers a nice distraction from simply building things. Quote:I really would love to explain the finer points of game theory later, however it's 1 am now - so sleep I think should be first. For someone who's allegedly going to school for game design, you seem to have a very narrow view of what Minecraft can be. I suppose you likewise despise Prophunt for radically changing what the developers intended for TF2? Based on the arguments you've given me, you'd have to in order to be consistent. Weren't you making the comparison that nerfing Creepers is akin to disallowing Pyros? Prophunt disallows a lot of classes.

That's the short form, lacking details. No the Real thing is Rik is going to change what ever he wants with out thought to what the players who happen to play on his server want ..He said it before there will be no vote if he wants to remove all monsters .. its done nothing can be said if he wants to remove the need for mining ..Oh well He don't like it Pvp fun and game modes ....Naaa i dont like it so bye He even said he would not even play there anymore if we happen to get creeper shit turned back on ...Overreaction much The Whole reason he turned it off is because he was and is still new to the game and refuses (yes REFUSES ) to make a defense to Stop creepers from getting near the structures he wants to protect on the baises it looks bad to do it ..We talked about this all last night on minecraft and it that was his whole reasoning ..Not the long term land damage ..not any other excuse cause he just dont want to work. Its like getting a new online game and finding a feature that is hard/annoying to deal with because you are new and don't know how to counter it ...No shit most people would turn it off and make it easier for them ..as you said people want to feel like they are winning Ever see a newbie in tf2 get owned by spys or engies ?.. When i first joined they bugged the hell out of me and i really did hate them , OP! but i learned to deal with them and everything is fine now ..they are part of the game you dont have to like them ...just cause you can remove them dont mean you should. Btw go look at creeper damage , on stone its like 1 block ..it only effects Dirt/gravel/sand more then that.. it doesn't change the fact that most people think Jews are much like the Ferengi of Star Trek.
