I set the server up for cp_steel, next week's map. I won't get a chance to look at it until tomorrow but I *think* there should be inherent bot support. If not I'll generate it tomorrow.

There is a whole host of bots on the server, but they just stay in the spawn points and taunt each other at times. Kind of like our team actually. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like ... victory"

I'll get in there and set them up. Edit: nav file created so the bots should be at least somewhat functional. They'll of course be a bit stupid since the autogenerating nav stuff isn't perfect. But when you consider what it does... it's still pretty impressive.

Words are an inadequate medium through which to express just how much I hate this map. Please, PLEASE show up on Monday if you're a primary on the roster. Because I really don't want to play this map, let alone in competition. -_-

Don't forget: Scrim on Sunday. I really don't want to look like a fool having only 7 of us show up for something that's been set up for a week now. Quote:Razor: As hard as one might try no one will ever be able to pull one over on Super Penguin. Backpack of Win

Next week's map, pl_swiftwater_ugc, is up on our practice server and I'm generating the bot support right now. Not that this map is updated as of 2 days ago, so if you have an older copy you might have to delete it to download the new version. It's a pretty huge outdoor map so I had to reduce bot counts. Doesn't take many big areas to lag the server to the fifth level of hell. Dalton- may really need you as sniper on this one. As much as I like the huntsman, it's not great in big, open places.

Update:We're doing really well now! We have a positive Win/Loss percentage and we're actually tied for the fourth best win-streak in our league (which I think is awesome). Yes, one of those was a forfeit, but who cares? Other shiny statistics include: Rank in our league: 59/105, Shadow's Team is ranked 38 in the league, and the team we "played" last night is now ranked 76. We should actually be ranked higher, but since last night was not a real "win" we didn't earn any points for our point-differential, which plays a big part in the UGC ranking system. Shadow's team has the same win/loss ratio, but they have a point-differential of 5 (rather than our -5). We've got momentum though. We started at the bottom of the chart and we're almost more than halfway up it. And we've still got 4 more matches before the playoffs start (which we may or may not be able to get into). What's next:We're going to keep practicing like we have been. Practices will be at the same time as default match times: 6:30pm PST (7:30 Mountain, 8:30 Central, & 9:30 Eastern). These will be on Wednesdays and Sundays. THIS Wednesday at 6:30 pm PST we will have another scrim with the same guys we scrimmed against on Sunday. PLEASE let me know your availability as soon as possible so I can start planning our line-up. We have 4 more matches of in-season play, so assume we'll be playing Mondays at 6:30 pm pacific unless otherwise stated. That is all. Good job so far everyone, it's been fun! That is all. Good job so far everyone, it's been fun! Kind of lame to use point caps as a basis for scoring. The best team in the world could lose the tournament simply based on their competitors forfeiting. Strange to penalize a team for that. Imagine what the NBA or MLB would be like if the team with the most points in a season won in the end. =P

Re: availability for matches and practices: I'll be available for all except maybe the week of April 9. I'll be skiing in Utah that week and I can't guarantee internet connection in the Wasatch mountains. I'll bring my laptop with me if we are still in the tourney. Awesome, if we do play April 9, it will mean that we're in the playoffs (wouldn't that be exciting?)! Update:The team we were scheduled to scrim against tonight bailed half an hour before it started. We only had five players ourselves at that time, but they want to play on Sunday instead. Will this work for you all? Frosty and Drakhen both said we should cancel last minute on them on Sunday...which seems kind of against the spirit of UGC, which promotes cooperation between teams... What do you guys think? I think we should try and scrim them on Sunday, it's good practice, even if cancelling last minute was very rude of them. Let me know before Sunday your opinion as to whether or not we should do this scrim. Also: It looks like the UGC peoples are a little slow in setting up matchings for this week, so I'll let you know about the time for Monday's match (assume 9:30 pm Eastern) as soon as I hear. Hmm, something that I don't think has been discussed... Thoughts on our soldier and demoman using the Pain Train? It seems like it'd be pretty valuable on CP and PL maps if we can mitigate the 10% increased susceptibility to bullets. Apparently it's banned in some leagues, but it's not on the UGC's list. Maybe worth considering in some cases, anyway. P.S. For those who don't know why, it makes the soldier/demoman count as two people (like the scout) when capping/cart-pushing

Apparently it's banned in some leagues, but it's not on the UGC's list. I have considered this before, a big part of how I play soldier is knowing when to back up and grab a health kit, which I usually accomplish by using the Equalizer. The pain train really helps with pushing the cart (or capping a point in cp maps) and since the cart heals you when you're capping it seems like it would be more useful on a payload map. I think I will try switching between the pain train and equalizer tomorrow, it seems like it would be a good weapon to use on offense (definitely not defense though obviously). Also: The match on Monday will be at the standard time (6:30 pacific, 7:30 mountain, 8:30 central, 9:30 eastern). PLEASE let me know if you definitely can't make it (pm me, email me, find me on steam, whatever). If you want my phone number to contact me in the future I can give you that too, just let me know and I'll pm you or whatever. Double Also: Here's a really good video for UGC tournament play on Monday's map. It's pretty long (30 minutes) but very insightful, especially for positioning and map terminology. Moose Tracks - SwiftwaterTriple Also: If you are on the roster you can enter a UGC raffle to win an unusual hat, just go here and sign in via Steam. You have to pick the class you want to win the hat for, since they're awarding one hat to someone in each class.
