until I can get a working video card. Hows that for a cheap fake out? You thought I would have to punch myself in the balls and insult myself until I changed my mind. Seriously though, I can't play shit for more than a few minutes before my card begins cooking itself so I'll be hanging out on the forums and crying myself to sleep as my rank slowly drops. I know, rank is bullshit - but I made it up to 3rd place and I figured why not at least hit 1st if only for an evening? Oh cruel world... Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Yeah, just because you dont play the games for a while, doesn't mean you quit for a while. Cantrip wrote:When I die, I want to be reincarnated as a woman's jogging bra.

Yeah, I'll still be hanging out on the forums - I'm going to see if I can find a loaner card from a friend, or convince my wife to let me buy a new card :) Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

I'm looking at buying a 7600GT. I was originally planning on upgrading my CPU (A64 OC'd to ~2.3ghz) to something dualcore and had been prepping my wife (the 939 socket is being phased out, so if I don't buy one soon they will get really expensive and hard to find!). I think I might have to change my argument to ("I'll buy a refurb, it's only $120!"). Sucks because I do want a dual 939 before I wind up where I was before I upgraded my poor old AXP. I really need a new HDD too - I have a 60gb drive that is several years old and has seen some very heavy use. I already lost my entire music collection (going back to pre-napster era) when my external drive head crashed. I did hear back from LeadTek - they didn't answer my question and instead sent an autoresponse saying to fill out the RMA form and ship my card off to them. I don't really want to do that, I've never had a good experience dealing with warranty stuff - I've heard LeadTek isn't bad, but I seriously have never had anything but shit experiences dealing with warranty crap (I'm currently in a battle royale with Sears over my stupid washing machine). I wish they could just ship me a new fan, it looks easy enough to swap out. Paying $25 to ship my card so they can take 4 months to swap a fan on it isn't my idea of fun, assuming the thing is even still under warranty! Considering my luck with warranty repairs I'll ship the card off and get a Ti4200 back 6 months later and then spend another 3 months getting it straightened out. I did look into buying a replacement fan, they were all overpriced though, I'm not spending $30+ to keep a card that's only worth $80 now (brand new!) running for a few more years. I dug out my old ti4200 - I have it installed. It's sort of working. Need to reinstall my drivers though - I might have some limited 3d-acceleration in another 15 minutes :) If this sucks horribly I will try to rig up some ghetto fan system to keep it less hot, and maybe underclock it a bit too. Whatever it takes! Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

Why not just buy an aftermarket cooler? I got a big-ass Zalman cooler (http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q2/zalman-vf700s/index.x?pg=1) on my 6800GT and everything stays nice and quietly cool. I assume you've got an AGP bus (Ti4200)? If so, look for a card on eBay. With everyone upgrading to PCI-E there are a lot of good deals out there.
