I have a question that I wanted to thow out there for opinions.. and dont tell me you dont have one.. I know we all do
About a year or so ago I upgraded video to a Nvidia 6200 256M (EVGA flavor) and it did a great job or awhile. However as any technology on the edge of obsolesence does, it is already starting to show signs of dragging on some of the heavier stuff . This has caused me to start tossing around the idea that maybe I need an upgrade again. System is AGP and personally I dont think we will see any more major technology investments being made on the AGP platform. This would mean that the cards that are out there now are the best we will ever see for the platform. That narrows the list of options to jumping to something in the Nvidia 7 series. I guess my question is would any increase in performance be worth the price at this time or should I just continue riding this one out for awhile and upgrade to a PCI-e system later?
System is Intel 2.4 with 1g Memory Once Known as Grumpy... Oh hell lets face it... I have and will always be Grumpy

Im no aficionado of these kinds of things, but I would deffinently wait, save some more money, get a PCI-E mobo, and a PCI-E vid card as well. AKA Shinobi Quote:Kick some giga-butt

if you do decide to get the pcie mobo/card you might want to get a new proc too. or just get a brand new system. Honestly, I have an agp card and it does the trick for the amount of gaming I do. It even plays fear on high settings with minimal hiccups. Now you said you had an intel 2.4, but what kind of intel??? Another question is, what games are you trying to play that are getting a bit jumpy. HL2dm doesn't really need that much power, and I laugh my face off when I see jerks with sli 7800gtx cards that still play cs1.6 at 30 billion fps. It's honestly a matter of what you are looking to spend, and how much improvement you want.

I suggest you get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157081R
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103537
It's a good combo, you can keep your agp card and upgrade to PCI-e later. You don't have to switch power supplies and you can probably keep your ram.

Do not get an ASRock motherboard they a crap. If you run 400 dual channel ram, the bios back it down to 333 i think it is. ANd the agp is crap also. The chipsets wont let you use anythign higher than an 9600 ati video card, and a 6800 nivia card. I have a ASRock mother and i will never buy another again. If you buy cheap motherboards they tend to be cheap and not work very well. If you dont want to spend alot olot of money, get a 6800 ultra or a x1300 or x1600 apg and you will see that they will do what you wnat them to do, i have a x700 pro and it has run every game i wanted at the highest setting and i was running a amd 2600+ 2.1 and 1 gig of ram and ran everything fine WDF?: I found a hot girl WDF?: Who lets me WDF?: Drink WDF?: Smoke WDF?: And play video games WDF?: ALL DAY shignog: and in the back door? WDF?: She's back door compatible WDF?: And it comes enabled by default WDF?: I need to teach sirus a lesson WDF?: Oh wait WDF?: That's called gay shignog: if there is a girl there its bi WDF?: lol WDF?: ok shignog: so its not so gay WDF?: Good enough

im in the same boat you are. i have an old machine that only has AGP with an old ass graphics card. i was looking to get a new graphics card and i did some research in ATI and with your system, if you get the x800 or x1600 you will be able to play any top of the line game for the next 1-2 years. the cards are agp, but they are great cards, and i'm sure that nvidea has similar ones. as for me, i have decited to rough it out for another year until i graduate, then use any money i didn't spend as an undergrad on a new top of the line gaming machine. i will consiter it a graduation present to myself.

You're also wrong about the chipsets not allowing better AGP cards as Anandtech tested this board with an AGP version of the 6800 Ultra. http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2524&p=6 A 6800 Ultra costs $200+ in AGP form and an X1300 and X1600 will not provide that much of a performance boost compared to a 6200. Get the ASRock board and a 3000+ to keep all your old stuff and later when you've got more money you can upgrade to a PCI-e video card. A 7900GT will cost you $299.99 or less, a 7600GT will cost you about $150 or if you want to go the ATI route an X1800XT will cost you less than $250, and an X1800GTO will cost you $200.

Im sorry you are worng i e-mail ASRock tech support and that is what they told me. Im not worng about the ram the is what the bios says ans thats what the manual says as well. I have an ASRock motherbaord it is 775i65gv go to the website and go to the section where it talks about what video cards that the motherbaord will and will not take. My x700 pro wont work in it. And next time know what your talking about so you dont sound like a jackass ok. In my posting i put what the ASRock tech told me and i think is it funny that your saying that an ASRock tech is wrong. ANd the chipsets do limit what ati cards it will take the board will take 6800 utlra but thats the highest it will take it wont take high end ati cards. ANd in my post about it said it would 6800 card. WDF?: I found a hot girl WDF?: Who lets me WDF?: Drink WDF?: Smoke WDF?: And play video games WDF?: ALL DAY shignog: and in the back door? They told you the ram wouldnt work on an INTEL board, did you even read what the board is? It's a ASROCK Dual SATA2 939 board, not your LGA775 board. It's based on the ULi chipset, NOT an Intel chipset. With the Dual boards they had before they were using a PCI slot to power the AGP slot so you werent able to use anything good in that slot. I'm not saying ASROCK tech is wrong, I'm saying YOU ARE WRONG. It's a different board on a different platform, and on a different chipset. How about you go to the ASRock webiste and look up the motherboard I posted? Oh yeah, the ASRock takes all ATI cards, please do your research before you pull shit out of your ass. http://www.asrock.com/product/939Dual-SATA2.htm Straight from their site, SUPPORTS DDR400, and it says the AGP slot is REAL, not the stupid fake AGP crap you had on your board.
