I have that ASROCK board w/an A64 3000+ overclocked to ~2.3ghz, 1gig of Corsair Value @ ~400mhz and an AGP GeForce6600GT OC'd a little bit. I haven't had any problems and have no qualms about recommending the 939Dual to anyone. Besides the PCI-E upgrade path it also has a slot you can plug in an AM2 riser card so you can use the new CPU's and DDR2 if you want. My only complaint about the board is that the manual for it totally sucks and is full of engrish, but that is pretty standard these days. It was the easiest build I've ever done and it overclocks great - certainly not as good as the dedicated OC boards that let you tweak every little thing, but good enough for my purposes. At the time I think I spent just under $200 total for the board & CPU - definitely a good bang for my buck since I can swap out both the CPU and the vid card down the road and get another year (or 3!) worth of action out of it.

If you buy cheap motherboards they tend to be cheap and not work very well. Uh, you're wrong about the ram since its an A64 board and it supports DDR400. You're also wrong about the chipsets not allowing better AGP cards as Anandtech tested this board with an AGP version of the 6800 Ultra.

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2524&p=6

A 6800 Ultra costs $200+ in AGP form and an X1300 and X1600 will not provide that much of a performance boost compared to a 6200. Get the ASRock board and a 3000+ to keep all your old stuff and later when you've got more money you can upgrade to a PCI-e video card. A 7900GT will cost you $299.99 or less, a 7600GT will cost you about $150 or if you want to go the ATI route an X1800XT will cost you less than $250, and an X1800GTO will cost you $200.

Im sorry you are worng i e-mail ASRock tech support and that is what they told me.  Im not worng about the ram the is what the bios says ans thats what the manual says as well. I have an ASRock motherbaord it is 775i65gv go to the website and go to the section where it talks about what video cards that the motherbaord will and will not take. My x700 pro wont work in it. And next time know what your talking about so you dont sound like a jackass ok. In my posting i put what the ASRock tech told me and i think is it funny that your saying that an ASRock tech is wrong. ANd the chipsets do limit what ati cards it will take the board will take 6800 utlra but thats the highest it will take it wont take high end ati cards. ANd in my post about it said it would 6800 card.

They told you the ram wouldnt work on an INTEL board, did you even read what the board is? It's a ASROCK Dual SATA2 939 board, not your LGA775 board. It's based on the ULi chipset, NOT an Intel chipset. With the Dual boards they had before they were using a PCI slot to power the AGP slot so you werent able to use anything good in that slot.

I'm not saying ASROCK tech is wrong, I'm saying YOU ARE WRONG. It's a different board on a different platform, and on a different chipset. How about you go to the ASRock webiste and look up the motherboard I posted? Oh yeah, the ASRock takes all ATI cards, please do your research before you pull shit out of your ass.

http://www.asrock.com/product/939Dual-SATA2.htm

Straight from their site, SUPPORTS DDR400, and it says the AGP slot is REAL, not the stupid fake AGP crap you had on your board.

I never said it would not take ddr 400 dipshit,i said that it would run them in dual channel mode but insted of running at the 400 they run at 333, they back it off for more of a stable set up.

Also it say do not use a 3.3v agp card in the motherboard because it may cause permanent damage. and they say to use x300 becsuase it has passed there lab test still dont say anything that i can find about using an x700 or higher

I have the 939Dual and my ram runs at 400mhz without any problem. As with most contemporary motherboards you can change the ram settings on the 939Dual. The way I have my board set up my ram is running at a little over 400mhz so I can OC my CPU from the stock speed of 1.8hz to 2.3ghz. I think what you may confused about is that the 939Dual (or at least earlier versions of it) would detect DDR400 with certain timings incorrectly and required that you manually set it to run as DDR400. My old Epox board did this, it's not a big deal - back in the day we used to have to set everything by jumpers so I'm just happy I can config this kind of shit without having to open the case up!

You are correct about the 3.3v AGP cards - from what I have read the majority of the time they either won't post or the machine will be unstable.
As far as running an x700 or higher - any AGP or PCI-E video card will run in this board except for the 3.3volt AGP card, which are not very common these days. I have even seen people running top of the line AGP and PCI-E cards simultaneously - can't do SLI that way though unfortunately...

I have a question, why is every one talking about old tech boards?  I use this board:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131568

Much better than the ASRock POS board you guys are talking about.

Technically that board is older tech. than the 939Dual - the chipset is older and the board itself was released longer ago. Also, the 939Dual isn't a POS - it fits a specific niche that a lot of us need filled because it provides a clear upgrade path for those of us not willing to sacrifice our AGP cards (ASRock is also a division of ASUS so it's not like the quality is total shit!).
If I wanted a high-end motherboard that supported SLI I would probably go with that ASUS board or something in its class. In my case for the cost of that ASUS board I got the 939Dual and an A64 3000 and I got to keep using my AGP 6600GT. When the time comes I can throw in a faster dual-core CPU or buy the riser card and get a new AM2 CPU and DDR2, and I can replace my AGP card with a better PCI-E card  - I won't have to buy an entire new motherboard if I want to upgrade later, i.e. I get the best of both worlds. For some of us this it makes a lot more financial sense to buy a $80 mobo that lets us keep our AGP video cards but still upgrade everything later than it does to buy a $180 board!

Wrong again, if it says it supports DDR400, it FUCKING has it clocked at DDR400. What kind of retarded ass board would say it supported DDR400 and downclocked its ram to DDR333? It's an A64 board, not a shitty socket A board.

Yeah it says don't use a 3.3V agp card. Who the fuck uses a 3.3V AGP card anymore? 3.3V for AGP was meant for 2x cards.

If you're gonna talk about computers like you know something, at least do your fucking research.

YOU DONT HAVE THE 939DUAL BOARD, YOU DONT HAVE THE MANUAL BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE THE FUCKING BOARD, YOURE TALKING ABOUT A DIFFERENT BOARD ON A DIFFERENT CHIPSET

HOW RETARDED ARE YOU

You know, over the years on the AT forums I've read some pretty bad advice. But you, oh man. You're advice is some of the worst garbage I've ever read on the internet. Instead of voiceing your opinion in a nice manner and responding to mine after I correct you, you try and make an arguement that consists of "you dont know anything" and "anyone can google that stuff"

It's funny how you say I don't know anything, when you messaged me on xfire a couple months ago asking me how to overclock your CPU. Fucking end yourself so you can't procreate you stupid little prick.
