seriously people, the magnum is untouched (damage wise) in the crypt, so just practice with that and you don't have to change the other settings. no reason you cant get just as good with it with the current settings. in fact with the server modded the way it is, you will probably get even better because you will have to dodge even more powerful x-bows. i actually cap more flags in unmodded because it takes more shots to take me down then it does in the crypt. i usually get at least 1 cap on every level i play (if not more) on the crypt. on unmodded servers i was getting like 3. so playing on unmodded servers doesn't make you a better player, it only makes you a better player if you care about your rank on the crypt and are afraid to practice with other weapons and suffer for a short period of time. ...let the flaming of llenta begin

What I was trying to get at is that if you use a weapon a lot you get good at it. If you are good at a weapon that a lot of people aren't good at you have an edge on them. Modding a weapon to make it stronger means you use it more means you get good at means you are still good at it when it isnt modded. I personally find an xbow hit followed up with some shotgun action to be damn effective. The larger point I've been trying to make is that the Crypt may degrade some skills to varying degrees but it also improves other skills. Dick Cheney's Blog Entry wrote:
fuck escalation, put our lazy troops to work!
The warmongers at National Review think our soldiers are lazy:Note that an increase in embeds doesn’t necessarily require an increase in overall troop strength. We’ve got lots of soldiers sitting on megabases all over Iraq. They should be out and about, some of them embedded, others just moving around, tracking the terrorists, hunting them down. I don’t know how many guys and gals are sitting in air-conditioned quarters and drinking designer coffee, but it’s a substantial number. Enough of that.I wonder how many chickenhawks at the National Review sit in air-conditioned offices all day drinking designer coffee? I bet it's a higher percentage than soldiers in Iraq. Here is my recommendation: Shut the fuck up and put your ass on the line. If you support this war then go fight it yourself. What a bunch of fucking pricks. Dick Cheney's Mechanical Heart wrote: You really think our troops are lazy? That seems seriously fucked up man, do you have personal knowledge to back that up?
Dude you have a sick way of twisting things. No I think that they should not be all in mega bases. Not that they are lazy. I have family members that gave their lives for this country dude. I also was considering joining the armed forces as well. Anyway back to the topic at hand. I have nothing against you and I even read your stupid blog that you say no one reads. Also this is your blog after all. I just do not like the mega bases. However I am not informed and according to your blog you make them look really bad. I think our troops give their freaking lives for us and I am thankful for them. I agree with you that they need to get out of their freaking offices and see for real what is going on over there. My cousin just got back form Iraq. Same with a good friend of mine. Oh, now I understand! I think you need to re-read that post, it says exactly the opposite of what you think it says. I think where you are confused is that there is a big block quote taken from National Review which says that our troops are sitting in air-conditioned bases drinking coffee - the text I wrote following that criticizes the National Review. White boy wrote:
The RPG was an example. You used a bad example in other words. You took weapon that already did total damage and made it stronger. The xbow does not do nearly as much damage on an unmodded server then as it does on the crypt. Unlike an RPG.
Yeah, it was just an example. Suppose you changed the RPG to only hold 1 rocket and that rocket had no splash damage but was an instant kill when it hit. You would get better at direct rocket hits if you used it a lot. Then when you went to an unmodded server you would still be better with the normal RPG. That is what I was getting at. The same applies to pretty much any weapon - I could have used the puny sidearm or the shotgun as an example. White boy wrote: I also agree that the xbow can be a good tool with the shoti but how can one get used to using them together on a modded server. So therefore the server would need to be unmodded to learn how to do that. The xbow would kill the person before you can even get the shoti out on the crypt. I do agree that the crypt takes skill to play every once in a while but most of that skill is based on either avoiding the xbow or using the xbow.
To be honest I just stated why I think it should be unmodded. I have nothing else to say because I think this got out of hand. I am sorry for those who are reading this.
Not necessarily. If you don't have the requisite xbow skill in the first place you aren't going to be as good at the xbow+shotty combo. By getting good with the superxbow it is easier to learn the xbow+shotty combo. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

I will not try to flame you, because I respect everybodys' opinions.
Ok, I know the mag is untouched, but with people flying around with low gravity, aiming how you would in unmodded is VERY different...as I have experimented with. With the fact about dodging..it is easy to do with this gravity, but when you go to unmodded, you can not out run/dodge an xbow if the user is good with it . About your flag captures, it depends who you play with to be honest other than that you a a mystery. Go to Nemesis 24/7 2fort and let's see how many captures you get . And lastly, about the 'doesnt make you better,' Bike is a living example. Plus, I can asure you that people will use other weapons more likely on unmodded servers, since modded will be xbow dominated.
No hard feelings.

if you don't want to use the x-bow, perfect, you don't have to wait in the long line to get it when it spawns in the spawn room. then using other weapons such as the shottie and the magnum will make you a "better player". As far as using them on the crypt where the gravity and friction are modded, you said yourself that its harder to hit people because people move faster. well this then would be a better way to learn how to get good at using alternate weapons would it not. if you can hit a moving target moving at 50 mph, hitting a moving target at 20 mph would be easier.

My point is that if you become so adjusted to the Crypt's settings...your timing on regular unmodded servers will be way off.

You don't find yourself adapting to the change within a few minutes? It's even less of a transition from the Crypt to a nonmodded server than it is going from playing HL2DM to CSS or any other FPS, and I know we all play CSS and/or another FPS at least sometimes. It's not that hard to pick the new feel and play accordingly, at least it isn't for me. Am I alone on this? White boy - no problem, it happens all the time. I personally am on both sides of this one. I like unmodded cause it helped me get a little better at hl2, on modded and unmodded servers. I've noticed that some people I thought were "Amazing" aren't really amazingly good, I was just so used to modded, that when I switched over, I was completely lost. BUT! I miss the old tomb days, when I used to jump on, and there were a bunch of people playing, people from our clan, new comers, and regulars. If this becomes modded again, hop on an unmodded server for a change every now and then. I mean, our server is one of few servers like it, and that's what brings people in, right?lol jp jp!™

Why can't we just test it out unmodded and if it does not work out then go back to modded. A lot of people are worried about how many people are going to play in it and if the old pDs members are still going to play there. Why don't we just see and then go from there? Just an idea. Or we can still just debate it like we are.

Modded or Un-Modded, honestly I don't have much trouble playing on either. I do notice that the magnum "seems" to work better Un-Modded and the xbow is still a powerful weapon. But I do notice that many on the other servers that are un-modded use nades and orbs. I have been having lots of fun on the Hax (except too many orbs)and FF servers.
Saying that, it's hard to argue with the numbers. The Tomb was the #1 server and The Crypt was well on it's way to #1. Modded servers just seem fun. I say let's keep it fun.
