Nobody used to use the magnum, especially not as a sniper. Now everybody does. I remember realizing that when I played a 1vs1 against somebody on aim_arena. Supposedly the "greatest map ever", I think i got friggin' mag headshotted and spawnkilled like 24 times in a row . That's when the game lost its fun and appeal for me. I think TF2 will be a breath of fresh air and I will probably be there to frag. You wanna take this to Fuck Town? Oh gadzooks, yes!

I'm not going to get into some debate over who's right about the best DM game. My feelings are dm games do not need a sniper rifle. When I envision deathmatch I envision fast paced carnage. Save your camping for counter-strike. Second, if you feel the physics are just a novelty you obviously don't use them often. I think the physics are the most innovative idea to make it into a multiplayer game in a long time. Out of ammo? Pick up that radiator. Not to mention the interaction between slams and various physics objects, etc. I will also admit that DM has it's flaws, it isn't perfect, this of course being the point I was attempting to make in my earlier post. Perhaps with the right TLC it would have reached it's potential.

I wish someone would port q1dm gameplay into hl2 so it had sexy graphics and cool physics, especially the q1dm 3wave ctf mod. that would be the greatest game ever. Razor wrote:Killing people is good therapy.

I am just saying that having a sniper weapon might attract players from other mods that have them (majority)? It could probably be hacked in. I remember an old CS server when the op modded weapons and models server-side. It seems possible to take an existing weapon (xbow, smg, magnum) and modify it to reload slow, have a small clip (5 shots maybe) and use a projectile that travels fast. Possibly change the weapon model to a sniper rifle. The hl2dm server needs life, and something unique and useful could bring back the players. When your sig takes up more space than your entire post, you know you are badass

hl2 dm is officially fucked when TF2 comes out, i remember neo had a little conspiracy theory that the so called updates just made things worse so players would move onto their bigger cash cows like CS:S in which valve, steam, or whoever could eventually ditch dm completely In an hour of Darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to lead the way.

IMHO CSS is OK. I'm not very good at it, but I still play occasionally. I prefer DM because of the faster pace. Mayhem rocks! Crawling around + hiding = slow + boring. If you see me on CSS I'll be the guy rushing the other team and dying 10 seconds into the match. Listen for the gunshots and you'll know where the bad guys are. It's pretty much the same for me on DoD, although I actually like playing that game.
I'm really bummed to see how HL2DM has tapered off over the last year. I guess that is to be expected, though. Without manufacturer support, and with new games coming out all the time, we're just falling by the wayside. I've never played TFC so I'll have to trust you guys that TF2 will be the bomb. So long as the action is fast and crazy, I'll play.
For now, get on the Tomb!!
Having said all that - isn't this thread really about Turbo taking a break? It has been a lot of fun playing together. Enjoy some time off. You'll be back. It's hard to stay away. Just in case I don't run into you though, take it easy.

Possibly change the weapon model to a sniper rifle. The hl2dm server needs life, and something unique and useful could bring back the players. We actually messed around with that idea a bit a couple years ago. PissedOffMonkey was really working on trying to include the nixed sniper rifle from hl2 (and ctf) and put it in dm. We scrapped the idea when we couldn't add the weapon as a new weapon and instead had to replace a current weapon to include it. However, thinking back on it now, I could go without the pistol in exchange for the sniper rifle. As for the Sniper in general, I think one needs to analyze the levels in DM to accurately assume whether or not a Sniper weapon would work. I'm counting official maps only. While the ctf maps would have great use for such a weapon, the official maps would not. DM games with large scale maps make use of snipers, but this is a more close quarters game, where sniping simply isn't needed. I will talk to POM again though.
