All public colleges, along with city and state government agencies have affirmative action for vets and give them a huge preference when they apply to jobs to the point where even if someone is more qualified than the vet they will get bumped for a vet. There are a few big corporations that do to, but as I recall most of them have disproportionately low rates of hiring veterans, probably because they are greedy as fuck and figure a vet is going to cost them more in insurance costs and shit. Same with college applications, being a vet can give you a big boost when applying, at least to public colleges.

Yes, the government has issued laws that employers are to take vets over any other employee on their lists of applications for their job.  Here's the catch, if they are low on, say, blacks or mexicans for their jobs, they will most likely hire one of those types over a vet, but if a vet just so happens to be what they are looking at for their needs then they will hire a vet.  In my case, I am over qualified in several fields of interest, I have a heavy technical background (with certificates to prove it), am ASE certified in auto/manual trans and engine management systems, have been trained by Uncle Sam to work on and maintain Aircraft both in the field and in a base of operation, oh, then there's my Leadership abilities and training the Navy provided for me (I even have certificates for those too).  But there's a set back, I'm what you would call a "WHITEY", so somehow being born in this country and actually knowing WTF I'm doing in most cases somehow impresses upon employers that I'm going to be too stubborn to do what I tell them, oddly enough this isn't far from the truth.  Even when I was in the service I never really did what my superiors told me to do, I would aways get in trouble for not doing what they told me and doing it my way, which was usually more efficient and easier to do than their way but still, orders are orders.  I have what most people would call "Common Sense" so if it doesn't make sense, I won't do it, I'll try and find a better and more efficient way to do it.

When an employer looks at my application they usually look at me a bit odd and ask me why I'm even applying for the position, I usually end up telling them that its because all of the good jobs out there are either taken up by illegal aliens or by some other ethnic group I don't fall under (hey, its the truth, but employers don't always like that).  I'm just glad that I was able to sit it out this long at my parents place on what I have saved up from being in the service.

Now then, as far as that {pDs} logo on a 747 in the boneyard, I could do that so long as I get a magnetic sticker of our logo.  If anyone is interested in making a few I'll plaster them up a couple of different area's, hell, I'll even go to the flight test museum in Palmdale and put some on the aircraft they have there.  They have some pretty cool birds there including the SR-71, F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Falcon (Delta Wing), etc.  So like I said, just hit me up if you want some pics, but I'll be needing some "MAGNETIC" logo's for them to be taken properly, stickers tend to leave marks on multi billion dollar aircraft (go figure).

Have fun with this little message guys, I know how you all love to nit pick at everything so "Git'er Done!"

You should get in tight with someone who actually works in HR and really knows the field so they can explain the inside score, you have a very distorted view of how hiring processes are typically run. Practically nowhere actually has any kind of racial quota system, most places don't even give any kind of "affirmative action" bonus to minority applicants. Except for big corporations that have actually been busted for racist discrimination and a few other places, the odds are you will be hired over a more qualified non-white person. The big corporations can really do whatever the fuck they want when it comes to hiring, its really easy to cover up the actual reasons why you dont hire somone and just say "oh, they sucked in the interview" and they have armies of lobbyists and lawyers. If you are ever looking for a job again, apply to state jobs and I guarantee you will get a lot of interviews. It's hard to get a state job, but as a vet you will get a huge boost over everyone else and since its the state if you think anything shady is going on in the hiring (like you not getting hired cuz you are white or a vet) then you can file a grievance with the agency in charge of state hiring practices, unless you live in some shitty state in the south they will get all excited about a possible civil rights violation and actually launch a real investigation and do something about it. State hiring is really heavily regulated in almost every state and nearly all of the regulations favor the job applicant because the regulations are all designed to fight nepotism and discriminatory hiring practices. Also, if you ever interview for a state job, don't talk about how the niggers and wetbacks are stealing your jobs and if you ever get hired with the state never talk like that unless you want to get your agency sued and your ass unemployed. Actually now that I think about it, you could probably use some anti-discrimination training...

Well, now Southern Air is sending me for training in Greenwich Connecticut for a week.  I'm flying out there on the 24th this month so looks like I'll be on the east coast for about a week, any {pDs}'ers out there????  I know I'm pretty close to NYC so if I have any time to go sight seeing I'll probably end up there, or I could go the other way and see NCY's arch rivals, BOSTON!!!!  LoL

In any case, I'll be over there for a week and I'll probably have nothing do do after I'm done with a day of training, who knows what I'll do out there.

Greenwich is expensive.  Be ready for a $4 soda.
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

First ,Congratulations and good luck.  Sounds like a great job.

Second, I'm not sure if it's still true today, but a few years back, government contractors, especially military contractors did have a "ethnic/gender" diversity clause when quoting on government contracts.  Basically the defense contractors looked at it as "If you want the contract, you will have to show that you are an ethnically /gender diverse organization".  This not only applied to workers but contractors they hired to performed routine maintenance and repair.  Trust me, I saw this in action and you should have seen some of the work .

But anyways, have fun in the boneyard.
